I've had those uphill issues with my other Hondas as well. My auto CRV just can't figure out what gear so it keeps shifting back and forth until I just adjust my gas to give it a rest. My MT civic hatchback I'd just redline till the last possible moment. So I guess it's just a honda engine for you, but that's o.k. now that I live in Oakland and not SF it's no biggy to me.
