Hey FitCanada_Girl! I'm in a very similar boat as you. I have a 2005 Mazda3 GT Sport and want to trade it in for a 2009 Fit. I find the Mazda3 to be way sportier for my needs and sucks gas like crazy, especially with the 2.3L engine of the Sport GT. The car is all paid off so I'd like to sell it before the price depreciates even further. I want to a local Honda dealer in Markham, ON and was told the same thing about a release date for mid-September. However I'm not in that much of a rush to buy so I'd rather wait to see them in the showroom.
How exactly do pre-orders work? My dealer didn't mention anything of the sort. I don't think I'd ever buy a car sight unseen!
