Roof rack suggestions

I will need to get a roof rack system that is not permanent to carry my Kayaks. Anyone have any preferred suggestions or racks they use and like?

I have a Yakima rack for my kayak and it works fine. I will assume that Yakima will make the clips to fit the 2015 Fit soon after the car is available for sale to the public.

1. Q-towers x 4
2. Crossbars x 2 (various lengths, look for one that would fit your car)
3. Clips x 4 (different models for different fits on different cars, not sure if the clips for 13' will fit the 15')
4. Kayak racks/stackers & straps

They work well with my Honda Accord.

I do recommend looking up in Craigslist to save a few $

I'd also recommend Inno racks (if they fit the new Fit). They aren't as aerodynamic, but they're much cheaper and still a very sturdy rack with standard locks. I have one on my 2012 Fit and routinely carry my 17' hand built mahogany sea kayak just fine on the freeway.

Thanks guys! I ended up ordering a Yakima rack, once the clips are decided I will get them. Got it from ORS Racks $257 without clips. Also ordered the front loader bike rack and Evenkeel saddles. Now I just need a Fit to put it on!

I'm curious, did you get a round bar Yakima or did you get the Whispbar?

My boyfriend swears by the Yakima for our surfboards. Probably shouldn't be more than $350 and they last quite a while.

Yep Right on, paid $257 delivered without q clips! Love em, used them on another vehicle this past weekend to carry kayak! With clips $336 was total for my truck. I suppose the clips for the fit will be the same price

I bought the Yakima racks and accessories for my bike and kayak. I got about $600 in all of it but happy with it!

An update, for those who use the Yakima racks. I got a set of the Q99 clips cause I am too anxious to wait for them to make new ones. If you use the 2013 dimensions the clips wont work they are too long, so I did some experimenting. I ended up having to move the towers closer together and then they work perfect and hold fine, the angle actually looks very appropriate for grabbing. If anyone needs the dimensions just post and I will list what I ended up with. I still used the locations from the windshield back and the spread between them.

on edit: M1 dimension 38.5" and M3 36.5"

tmfit, to clarify, are you saying you essentialy ordered a Yakima rack system for a 2013 Fit and installed it on your 2015 Fit and only had to tweak the the M1 and M3 dimensions? If so, that would be great!
Thanks for sharing your work!

Yes that is correct. The angle of the clips fit the angle of the lip better that way also. If you use the 2013 dimensions the clips would be way to long.

As for wind noise I have not checked that yet but I am assuming it will. When I get a chance I will put them back on and check it. When I do get them back on I will post a picture of the clips mounting to the lip.

I'm in the market for a new vehicle and the 2015 Fit had been my number one choice -- until I was unable to find a rack solution through either Yakima or Thule for my sea kayaks.I called both Thule and Yakima to see when they thought they might be able to give me an answer and the best case scenario was 6-12 months. In fact, I had actually given up on the idea and had begun to look for a different vehicle when I came upon your post.

I may have missed something in your post, but how close together did you end up having to make the spread of your crossbars?
Thank you!

Thanks. I just sent you a PM with some additional questions. Have you had your kayak on the roof yet?

I have not had the kayaks on yet, just the racks, hope to mount the kayaks this coming weekend.
