Driver's seat comfort modification

After the first 80mi. round trip drive in my new FIT I noticed that my thigh muscles were aching a little from the seat position. I immediately knew what would cure the problem as cars with power seats have an adjustment to support your legs.

My solution was to machine some 1.5" spacers out of UHMW plastic and install with longer bolts. (only two spacers are required, I made extras for the passenger side but I'm not going to use them)

I used flanged bolts with the smaller JIS head so the original plastic covers would still fit

I machined the spacers with a recessed base so it would cover the carpet edge

installed!

Side view, you can see that the seat is angled back, It totally supports my thighs now! huge improvement...

This might not be an issue for shorter people but if you are around 6' or taller this will give you greater leg room and less fatigue while driving. After this mod. I actually needed to move my seat forward a click instead of being adjusted all the way back! next up... I'm going to tackle the armrest!

I think you devised a fantastic fix! I have the opposite problem in that the front of the seat eats into the bottom of my thigh. So, I would have to raise the rear of the seat.

For the armrest problem, I bought the "elbow friend" on Amazon. It attaches to the armrest with Velcro and is very comfortable. (Also at www.ElbowFriend.com)

You wouldn't be interested in going into production mode and selling kits, would you? Those are absolutely beautiful spacers, and I think this might be the fix I'm seeking as well.

Were the JIS bolts readily available?

I have an extra pair that I can send you if you want to test them out, message me your address.

you will have to file out the rear seat holes a small amount for alignment as tilting the seat slightly changes the bolt spacing. I can go over instructions if you decide to do it.

I was originally going to do both front seats as I thought they wouldn't match, but you cannot visually tell the difference once installed

I'd buy a set of these (and so would a lot of other people) if you started making kits.

Well done Gold..

Now if the right leg is still a bit crampy may want to try the spring on gas pedal trick It is here - https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...rn-spring.html

Gold, can you post a pic of how you had to alter the rear seat mounts?

I finally got to putting these in. I just took a big screw driver and put it in the rear hole of the bracket and bent it a little. It lines up perfect and no drilling.

Defiantly works. Feels like you're in the seat instead of on it. The thigh support now reminds me of a Recaro

I want to buy a fit but I'm a little concerned about the front seat comfort. Are you planning on selling these spacers?

I've made and sold a few sets to cover cost. I am happy to do another batch if there's enough interest.

I do them for $72/shipped for both front seats, includes bolts and washers.
1.5" spacer set for the drivers seat and 1" spacer set for the passengers seat.

please note: these spacers are not a direct "bolt on" due to the seat being angled the bolt spacing changes slightly requiring you to file/elongate the
holes in the seat or you can gently bend the seat bracket to compensate, It's a slight modification but it has to be done. I also require that all buyers email me a statement that they understand that these are non-factory approved parts and that they assume all liability for the parts and installation.

I would be down if you had another batch coming out. I'd only want 1" spacers for both sides though. Let me know if that's doable. Nice fix.
