Question: L Gear Behavior on LX CVT
Hey guys, as perspective LX CVT buyer, I have a question on how the "L" gear behave on CVT transmission.
Is the "L" gear on this FIT CVT dynamics ratio or fix ratio.
By dynamic ratio L "gear", I mean the computer will automatically adjust ratio enough so that your RPM is, say 4000 RPM or more, regardless of what speed you are going. So when you shift into L at 40MPH or 80MPH, you RPM will just go up to 4000RPM, and not blow up/red line in the case when you going 80MPH.
In my current 4-speed automatics Corolla, it has what I called the fix ratio "L" gear. When you shift into L at high speed, the transmission will do nothing until your speed is below the safety limited(ie. not beyond red line when the downshift occur).

On the EX, there is no L (or 1,2,or 3). But there is S for sport mode, which lets you use the paddle shifters to approximate a man trans. In S mode, if you redline, it will shift for you.
I'm not sure what the options are for the LX, since it doesn't come with paddle shifters. But, since it's a CVT, there's no physical gear for the trans to be put in, and since the behavior with the paddle shifters is for it to change when it's at high PRM, I can't imagine it wouldn't "shift" for you to protect itself.
