Crackling from dashboard

Hi all!

New owner of 2015 LX here. At about mile 120 I noticed a crackling sound coming from the dashboard (no specific source). It sounds almost like a leaf fluttering in the wind. I have ruled out the radio/speakers/vents. It only seems to occur at about 35-40 mph. Any ideas what it could be? It has gotten a bit colder here on the east coast, which is the most likely thing I can think of, but it still occurs after the car has warmed up. I don't really want to take it back to the dealership, but it is really annoying.

Thanks!

Check your outside trim around the cowl and windshield area. Something similar happened with my GE and it was fixed by applying foam to the outside trim.

I could have sworn the noise was from inside but the foam fixed it and haven't heard a peep since. There is a thread about it here somewhere.

have you opened up the hood and removed any leaves fromt he cowl? a few days ago i experienced this, and it was a leaf in that location that made the sound.

I will feel awfully silly if that's the case . Will go check and report back later today. Also thanks btrthnezr, I will check that option too.

Found a couple leaves and removed them, but no change in sound. It still persists in 35-50 mph speed now, whether accelerating or not. Very strange.

What Steve244 posted:

"Our buzz is more of a crackle (someone described it as a mouse humping bubble wrap; and that's not far off) and is a function of wind-speed (above 40mph)"

This is exactly what it is. I really don't want to have to go through that process you guys figured out... just 5 days after buying the car. Man, this sucks.

Hi Spore,

Sorry to hear about this. I can tell this is very annoying. We would like to have you bring the vehicle into the dealership for a diagnosis so we can work with you in looking into the concern. Please private message us with your full name, VIN, mileage, and dealer so we can better assist you.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, (I PM'd you, but I wanted to post this in the forum too)

Thank you for reaching out to me. This morning I took another look and found *another* stealthy leaf under the hood/cowl/windshield area. I removed it and my commute this morning was noise-free. If the noise is still gone on my commute back home I will provide a final update to this thread to let everybody know. If it returns I will PM you with all my info.

Thanks again for reaching out!
