You may have a burnt clutch. Do you ride the clutch in city traffic? That can lead to clutch burnage. Have it checked before long; I think the warranty won't cover it.

How many miles on your car? I noticed this the first couple of times I climbed a step hill back when the car was new. I assume it was paint burning off the exhaust manifold, since it went away after a week or so, and hasn't come back.

While I was typing this, I see you say you have 9K on the car. In that case, I haven't a clue. I haven't had this with my car since the first week I drove it.

Could be a weaker pressure plate in the clutch assembly. I remember looking at the warranty package when sales were trying to sell me the extended warranty, and the clutch disk is not covered. But if I remember correctly, the pressure plate could be covered. Now, your issue occurs on longer ascents, right? Maybe a good idea would be to downshift a gear or two in those situations.

My clutch starts to smell when I powershift it from 1st gear into 2nd, but I do that very rarely, or when I drive hard combined with a few fast shifts.

If you don't ride the clutch, then it's likely that it's out of adjustment. Since glazing of the disk could mean replacement, and it's not covered by warranty, you should get it in the shop ASAP to verify that it's adjusted correctly ... before there's actual damage.

If it's a fowl odor - look for a bird in the grill.

If it's a foul odor - look for a mechanical issue.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Could be the brand of gasoline you use. Or it could be the car ahead of you...

Try turning the intake air control to RECIRCULATE while going uphill...see if that makes a difference.

My manual had a defect from the factory. Hondas normally have incredibly smooth action so if you're shifting rough, I'd get the tranny looked at.

Burning smells might simply be some part of the engine or exhaust that is running a bit warmer than usual, due to power loading or conditions. If it gets worse, worry. Otherwise it will likely go away.

I test-drove a Fit with single-digit mileage that smelled like an oil refinery. It was simply the preservative burning off of the exhaust manifold.

Do you get unduly nervous driving up hills? If so, you might want to tighten up your hygiene regimen. That might make it smell a bit sweeter in your car.

Or you're smelling overheated brakes from trucks going down the hill in the other direction.
