Lightbulb Honda Fit 2016 Oil Change

this's my first time to change oil for this car, there's only 2150 miles on it.
its a pain to change oil for this car, at least for the first time.
first problem: the car is too low, you need to jack it !
second problem: the shield plastic "screws", they are not screws! , they make you think they are screws because they have Phillips head, but they are NOT, i spend 15 minutes spinning them , i was about to break them till i figured out that they just need to be pulled!

notes:
1- I did put back the old oil into a container and it shows there was little bit less that 4 quarters (see the picture)
2- there was a purple pen mark on the oil filter, any one have seen that on their oil filter ? and why marked ? (see picture)
3- the oil is darker than i expected for 2150 miles engine, maybe light oils like 0w-20 gets dark faster than high viscosity oil.
4- I didn't take a picture for the shield plastic "screws" so i took it from a YouTube video, unfortunately they guy who posted it skipped how he opened them.

anyway, thank you for reading, i hot it will help you doing your oil change, please if you have questions or things to add to this thread please share it.

Why did you change your oil so early? My mm was at nearly 10000 before I did my first oil change.

I find driving the car on ramps makes it easy to do an oil change.

You may want to keep some spares of those funky screws. Some folks have had their panel fall off after those screws came undone. Either that or figure out a replacement that works better.

Oil getting "dark" has no bearing on whether the oil "needs changing". All modern detergent oils will darken quickly, as they absorb minute carbon particles. This is by design, and a function of the high detergent content. If it didn't, all that stuff would stay in the engine, building up sludge. Dirty oil=clean engine.

Please, NEVER get under a car held up by a jack. Jacks can and do fail, or the car can roll off the jack. People die from this. Get a set of ramps and use them, instead.

The purple pen mark is a quality control verification that the filter was properly tightened.

You will also see colored hashmarks on various bits of hardware.

This is a common manufacturing/assembly practice these days.

FWIW, The owner's Manual states to leave in the break-in oil until the maintenance minder says to change it.

Interesting variance in recommendations and opinions.

My dealer says to bring 2016 FIT (CVT) in at 5K miles for 1st engine oil, filter, and transmission fluid change (plus a series of inspections & wash) which they do at no charge. Standard oil/filter + inspections (& wash) is $39.95, but they email a $10 discount coupon each month.

I am a bit surprised they don't throw in tire rotation at service (or every 5K miles). Isn't that fairly standard?

Thanks for the post....

for the oil filter, I think it's to mark the filter for last minute inspection?? I lived and worked in japan, and they like to mark things that have been checked. last QA before use.

Also, get yourself a ramp and wedges...it's safer and they're cheap.... I have these and more at home, but I don't do my own oil change anymore... I just collect snap on tools and pretend I need it. Hey, if my old lady can buy all her purses at $150 to $1500 range and barely uses them, then she shouldn't be upset when I bought a Mikita compressor to blow of hairs on ppl I cut hair for lol.....

Your dealer is wrong. The manual calls for service when the maintenance minder light comes on (or annually if it doesn't, with the exception of the break in oil), which is approximately 10K miles. The first visit you get an oil change and a rotation; the second they also change the oil filter.

I am aware their recommendation isn't in line w/ the manual.

Perhaps by offering the free, early service they are playing on the "break-in" syndrome by showing 'they care' and also training us new owners to use their dealer services?

That's a nice way of putting it.

How in the world is your engine so dirty looking? I've driven my car for what, 19 months now, it's nowhere near as dirty as that.

I don't blame you wanting to change your oil then with all the dirt that engine has ingested.

Yea I wouldnt have changed the oil till 10k or so.

And as for tire rotations, no not likely. Usually the dealer charges 20 bucks for that...BUTTTT if you are remotely near a discount tire ( it looks like they have them in TN) they offer free tire rotations and tire pressure check and fill

And as far as alignments Firestone auto offers lifetime alignments for 200$ give or take

I don't do tire rotations on the Maintenance Minder schedule. I use a tread depth gage and rotate them when they need rotating. Since I run four snow tires in the winter, it usually works out that I rotate the tires when I change the snow tires to summer tires and vice versa.

thank you guys for sharing your thoughts and experience.
regarding the question why I changed the oil early ? the answer is: I bout this car as a Salvage car because it was Vandalized, I didn't feel safe to drive it till I change the oil.
