Another engine splashguard thread
Okay so I know from snooping around on these forums previously the engine splashguard is a huge design flaw/issue with the 3rd generation Fits. About a year and a half ago my splashguard fell off to the point it was dragging the street to which I had fixed at the dealer. Now again I look under my car and it is hanging low where several clips have yet again clearly come off. Since the 3rd Generation has been around for a while now and there hasn't been a recall on this issue, has there been a consensus on the best way to handle this issue?
I don't feel as in I drive the car very rough nor do I live in a particularly cold climate where road ice and such is a big issue. I get my oil changed at the Honda dealer, so they remove and put it back on. I feel like it is only a matter of time before it completely falls off again or to the point where it is dragging the road as I drive, so it is total dealbreaker to just remove it entirely? This isn't an issue I feel as if I should have to deal with on a consistent basis but since I have to anyways apparently what is my best recourse?

Making contact with a parking block can easily damage the shield. Seems to happen a lot since the cars don't have a lot of ground clearance.
It's damaged and dragging or hanging, I'd remove it. Watch out for tall objects.
It helps the aerodynamics under the car, so mileage might drop just a hair.

This issue isn't unique to the Fit, unfortunately. My '00 New Beetle had the same setup and same problem. I ended up replacing with an aluminum "Panzer Plate," that added better hard mounting points, too.
Nothing similar is offered for the Fit, though.

I've heard some people say that the splashguard actually protects the bottom of the car from moisture and stuff but online it's hard to tell what is true and what is just opinion based on non-facts. I would love to keep the splashguard on but if it repeatedly falls off like that then to me it isn't worth it. I don't want to risk being stranded on the side of the road because one of those plastic clips breaks and it is dragging the street.

Sorry to be off generation, but does anyone know if the 2nd Gen GE8 (North American) has an engine splashguard? I was under my "new" used 2013 this afternoon and don't see one, but do see where one might have been.

The first drawing (2016) shows a splash shield. The second drawing (2013) doesn't show one. So I'd say the answer is no.

I don't understand why anyone would do this. The car is so SHORT that there is no need to pull up until you hit the "car stop" except for carelessness.

not sure why u guys are having issues. ive done the oil change on the GK a few months back, yes the hardware honda uses do suck, but no issue with it undoing itself. did ur dealer do an oil change before the shroud came off?
ive had instances where the screws came undone after i let my dealer do a complimentary oil change on one of my other cars i owned in the past. never again i let dealers touch my cars unless recall repair i cant do on my own.

I'd also like to know the diameter of the pins used so I can shop around online for alternatives without paying the pricing of the dealer's OEM replacements with shipping. I'm sure there's a similar style push/screw pin that can be bought in bulk, but I want to make sure the size is correct. Anyone order alternative replacements that they know will work?

The splash panels don't always use pushpins either, many use screws and speednuts.
Or a combination of any of these.
