Only when it's humid, especially in the morning when the windshield is heavily covered in dew, my radio will change randomly.

It will change radio stations, go to control settings, go to different input settings, it might even dial a recent phone call. It can do it all, all by itself.

The dealer looked at it and did nothing, "wait till it's not intermittent, or breaks completely". In my 40 minute commute, my radio has changed a dozen times. And the dealer punts. Not happy.

I've searched around and found similar problems posted for other, older Hondas, but none seem to be related to humidity. Spilling drinks on the dash or steering wheel is more common.

Has anyone experienced this, what was the solution?

Possible windshield leak??? Have no idea, my friend....hope you get it sorted, as that would make a sane man crazy in no time.

 

You already know the solution: replace the radio.

For proof video tape it when it randomly changes, then play it for your dealer. Then for Honda, then put it up for Youtube.

Name your video "GhostFit goes to work".

I have my kids over this weekend, and if it's wet enough they can film while I drive.

New radio would be sweet, but the car is under warranty and Honda needs to make it right.

 

Are these all functions that can be done with the steering wheel controls?

Was just thinking, maybe it's not in the radio at all.

 

It can go to almost any screen, way more things are ghosting than can be done with the steering wheel.

Wow, this is hilarious. That's straight-up Audi quality there - or maybe 1980s Fiat. Honda has really caused themselves some bad press through the Mexico plant, huh ...

 

In the early 90s I worked in a dealership that sold Audis.....Their 80s cars were absolutely horrible.

First minute and a half are sitting in the driveway, the window is covered in dew, the I need to run the defroster and A/C to clear the window on the inside. No issues occur until I start moving.

1:32 the radio starts flipping around.
2:05 Ghostfit goes to the Radio control panel
2:50 Ghostfit returns to the Radio Control Panel, then my presets.
3:30 Ghostfit starts picking radio stations
3:51 Ghostfit selects 90.1 several times, Ghost fit picks the religious channel (ugh).
5:00 Ghostfit wants easy listening, Ghostfit must hate me.

Video has been sent to my service manager...

 

For ~$18k you were able to buy a Honda sentient being capable of making its own decisions. That is value for money! GhostFit is telling you to listen to 90.1 more often...

 

This ghost in the radio must make the ride to work more exciting. Extra value!
The complaint was likely not verified while they were looking at the car. Probably thinks you must be crazy or something because nobody else has ever had this same complaint LOL


IMO: The video sure confirms your complaint, I'd see that as credible evidence to begin a case for repair.

If a service tech cannot verify your complaint during the testing in the shop or on a test drive, this video evidence should suffice.

If technical assistance gets involved in the diagnosis, the video or a link to it can be forwarded to them for review. (This really does work sometimes)



You also gotta have a service advisor and tech that are willing to take the time to watch the video and take the steps necessary to get the problem taken care of.
If they seem unwilling, step it up to the service manager and get him involved.



Last resort if they can't get it fixed even with your video evidence.....you can call Hondas customer assistance hotline.

 

Yes Ezone, because I have to drive to the dealer, it appears everything dries out before they test anything. Because they can't see it, and it throws no codes (dependency on codes to diagnose a car is lame) they can't fix it.

In my email to the service manager, I did indicate I believe water is getting where it shouldn't and if I am right, this is just the beginning of electrical and corrosion issues.

If he doesn't respond after 24 hours, I will contact Honda Customer Service.

 

Plan B:
Start a youtube channel and start posting videos of your drive to work! You'll need a tripod.

I doubt this is the case, I would expect you would be finding the carpet wet or soaked if it were actually leaking water inside the car.

Your issue occurs with the right combination of temperature, humidity and dewpoint, not necessarily any rain. Correct?

Yes Ezone, it's humidity, when the car is cold. I haven't noticed any wetness inside the car. I haven't seen the problem occur when I am driving in the rain. I'm not sure it has ever occurred on a rainy day, just really damp mornings after cold starts.

The youtube video might not be up for long, it's been blocked in three countries already because it features songs. I have to say, the technology that finds the songs in Youtube videos is pretty impressive.
