To Canadians: SAE0w-20 Oil on sale at Cantire, 2017 Jan 20

Hello Fellow Canadians,
As I prepare for my first oil change, I see that the oil recommended for our 2015-17 Fits, SAE 0w-20 is on sale at Canadian Tire. As I'm in Ontario I am uncertain about the rest of the country. We only need 3.3L per oil change.

MotoMaster Formula 1 Synthetic 0w-20, 5L reg $44CAD on sale $28.59, starting today 2017 Jan 20 for 7 days. Ad online says 5w50 but 0w20 is also available. Reviews seem good for this oil. Please tell me if you think differently.

Other brands such as Castrol and Mobile1 for 0w-20 are around $46/5L jug.

Please extend congratulatory noises to our 'Merican friends and Fitfreakers, on the inauguration of President-elect Trump!

LOL! In that case you are welcome to come north. The price of a 5L/5.3US quarts oil jug is $20.71US for full synthetic 0w20.

I have never been so entertained by politics, Canadian, US or world. Not sure what emotion I should express, other than wide eyed wonder and the occasional "Did he really say that?"

I just picked up 2 Quaker State synthetic 5 US Quart jugs for $19.47 USD each with a $7 rebate for each. You might want to think of coming South and enjoying the warmer weather, cheaper gas, and of course cheaper oil. Oh and by the way guys and gals, keep politics off the boards, Trump might not be a prize, then again, neither is Trudeau, Merkel, Abe, etc. Just remember, despite unfounded fears, the US and the world will be around for another day.

I am currently running on Formula 1 5w20. I got it on sale last year and I got the 5w20. I find their oil is thicker than the mobil1 or castrol counterparts but it's a good quality oil and had no issue with it. I find my motor burns a little less oil with it.

You must have bought all the Quaker state in the Mid-atlantic! haha That's what I usually use, but I could not find any at my local walmarts. Would have been nice to get that rebate too.

Hey Commander, thanks for the info on Cantire's Formula 1 synth. Why did you go with 5w20 vs the Honda recommended 0w20? Is it because your car burns less oil, as stated, or for some other reason? My local Cantire had only 1 bottle of 0w20 left, which I bought, but lots of 5w20. 5w20 seems to be a lot more popular, and there may be better sales on this oil.

It's the closest thing to 0w20 that was on sale that week. I am not worried about going out of spec. If I were very worried about that, I would buy oil from the dealer.

The only 0w20 I had in the crankcase was castrol edge. Good oil. I also tried 5w20 Quaker State and 5w20 Castrol Syntec. I always get whatever's on sale at the time. Usually there's always plenty of 5w20 to choose from.

2Rismo2, check back often with W-mart. The QS rebate is for all of 2017 and is subject to a $21/household limit. I asked an associate at my local store why QS was no longer being carried when I saw the empty shelves and he said to me that QS is in the process of changing their containers and supplies should be available soon. The only change I see to their containers is a new label. I visited one W-mart and they had 5-20 in the new packaging, but no 0-20. They also had 5-30 in the old packaging. Luckily, I have no fewer than 5 W-marts within 15 miles of my location and had to visit a few before I found it. BTW, Pennzoil is currently selling for $24.79 at W-mart and they have a $10 rebate through all of 2017. Castrol often has rebates, but I cant find one right now.

Thank you for the heads up, MelR.
For those considering Motomaster Formula 1 [I used the 5w20 visc.], look at my 2nd UOA listed in the attached screenshot [the one dated April 18, 2017]. Got great results for a 25k kms run for 6 months with Castrol Edge 0w20 top-offs.

For reference, the 1st UOA started out with Castrol Syntec [no longer available] and top-offs with Quaker State 5w20. Great results as well, for a total run of 56k kms, but here I also removed 1L of oil from the crankcase every top-off.

All oils synthetics [whatever was on sale lol]

For 2018 I am planning on Castrol Edge EP 0w20 with same top-offs for an estimated 3 liters total top-off volume for a 1 year span with a total mileage of 40,000kms. Looking forward to that UOA. Keep tuned at the end of 2018 lol.

UOA - WearCheckCanada Burlington Location - 2 sample testing at 67k kms & 92k kms.

Super duper! Thank you for the heads up! They had a sale for mobil1 oil filters so I snitched one up a few months ago. They are surprisingly expensive at around $18 cad when not on sale. Another good one is my personal favorite: Fram XG7317 for $15 cad. Totally worth the money.
