I have the 08 sport edition and am going to put some 17x7 wheels with a +42 offset. I will wrap them with 205/40/17's and need some help. I was originally planning on going with the DF210 springs however i want the least amount of rubbing... I am now inclined to go with the Skunk2's because if the specs don't lie, the drop isn't quite as much. Please help me with the dillema I already have my wheels picked out and want to get this started already!!!

 

skunk2 drop is mild i have them on my 07 the front is dropped crazy and the rear about an inch... i think 17's on skunk 2 springs will rub

 

I was looking at NERDSROKK22's fit, not sure if you've seen it or not. After speaking to him he said the rubbing is very minor. I still wanted more input from other fit owners. Thanx for the reply...

If you want less drop try the Tanabe GF210 and even less then that would be Swift springs.

 

I had serious problems when I first picked up my rims, also +42 17x7's BTW. I bounced between several combinations trying to get one that would offer no rubbing.

First off, what tires do you plan to run? If they are a knock off like Lexani or Nexen save yourself the hassle and get something else because with a 205/40 you for sure will rub with those brands even without a drop using +42 offset rims.

With other brands, even without a drop you will have a bit of rubbing here and there, nothing most people can live with. With that said if you plan to push your car in autocross or load it down with gear all the time then you may want to reconsider; A +45 rim will pretty much clear that problem for you.

I personally went with the GF210's because they have the distinction shared with the Skunk2 springs of having the least amount of drop but still stiffening up the car nicely.

Again, if you plan to run knock offs expect to rub even with +45 using 205's. You should be fine running Yoko's, Falkens or BF-Goodrich. Other options are going to a 195/40 for guaranteed clearance in the most extreme situations. This is what I run with my +45 17x7's.. keep in mind I can't afford to have them rub at all with how I push my car.

Our experience with 205/40x17's on 17x7/42 wheels will rub for any significant drop of an inch or more. You need 45 mm offset when you drop.

yep, i would also recommend wheels that are +45 or higher.

 

consider getting 16s. seriously, the whole oversized wheel trend (aka donk) was made of fail a long time ago, but at least now it's fading away. spend the same money on a really nice 16" wheel, to include the money you'll save w/ 16" tires.

you'll also have fewer clearance issues.

 

So what makes of wheels offer such an offset? I would imagine they're pretty hard to come acrost. I had a hard enouph time finding +42 offset. Do you have any recommendations? So do you run 205's or 195's? Sorry so many questions but I really want 17's and want to have the least amount of rubbing possible.... Thanx for your help!

I think the donk term gets thrown around a bit too much around here.

Now in order to get the giant wheels on the car, the suspension had to be lifted.

Now granted I am a bit biased since it is my car, but 17's are as big as I would go. 16's look really good on Fits, but I wanted something different. As far as the lowering. I am running Kuhmo tires and the wheels are a +45 offset. Do I have rubbing... Not really shure yet. Two times both going into dips at speed I heard a scrape, but I think it was the rubber piece on the bottom of the front bumper. I am also running the Factory accessory front end bra, that requires the button attachment on the fender. As of today, I have not found any rubber residue on it. My Fender gards are tucked under the lip and a few of the fender clips removed. I have hit some corners at speed and the wife drives the car a few times a week, and so far so good. But if you are lowering this car you could have this issue with any spring. So you either fix it, deal with it, or stay at stock ride height and don't go any lower than +45 offset wheels.

 

check out spun wheels in 16's they are nice i have them in 15's and they are a =40 AND HAVE A NICE LIP I LOVE THEM I also am on tein s and they have a perfect drop on them i have 195/55r15 and i dont rubbat all

btw the 16's have a 2' lip and they come in all colors

 

yeah go with 17x7 or 17x7.5 with 45 offset on both.

im tire tucking with the fender lining trick mod. and i dont rubb at all.

and if you call my car donk your crazy, because its a little difference when pulled up next to someone who has 16's and when rolling people think im always rocking 16's.

its the drop that makes it look better.

if your gonna rock 17's you have to be slammed. otherwise it looks funny imo.

 

+1 I showed up at my parents house when I got my rims, and my mom did not like them that much. Showed up the next day, after the springs were installed, and all the sudden she liked them?

 

everyone has a different sense of proportion. 17s on a fit look too big; lowering the car helps but still looks wrong in my eyes. 15s or 16s are just right.

the worst of the worst is when someone gets the cheapest, biggest wheels with equally cheap tires. the wheels are stupid heavy, look ugly, and will probably bend or crack in a year or two. plus the crap tires, oh the horror. it's better to get a size down that looks proportional to the car while getting a good, strong wheel and tires that aren't shameful.

 

I agree with going with the +45 offset, but who makes such a wheel? I've been searching online and the closest is a +42. ANY SUGGESTIONS???????
