Hell the fit aint no lambo or ferrari or something like that so it wont most likely be a expensive repair if damage from the wheels occur. But in short dont be afraid to try new things or put in a little work to get the wheels to fit.
sorry for the long story

It's not the wheel but the tire and its position in the wheel well that controls whether rubbing occurs.
Any tire less than 23.5" on 08's and 23.7" diameter on 09's will clear the fender liner unless the wheel is pushed too far out by rim width or offset.
You could put solid wheels (aka wagon wheels) as long as you don't get too big in diameter or the wheel pushed too far out from the hub.
And yes solid 22" x7 wheels with only a half-inch of rubber coating would fit nicely if the offset wasn't too little. (42 mm for 08 and 45mm for 09).
You might want to get one of those hydro chairs used by truckers if you do that; and be prepared to replace a lot of things falling off.
cheers.
