Question Transmission won't shift into first!

Ok, so i got my fit a week and a half ago. I'm driving to work today when I come to a stop light. After the light turns green i try to shift into first and its like there was something in the way stopping the actual gear lever from going into place? After a couple of failed attempts, I disengage the clutch and then press it all the way down again and try again until finally it slides in like butter. I mean usually when ur shifting, there is a little bit of resistance to let u know the gear is engaged, but after it being stuck for a couple of seconds, it slides in like their is nothing there at all. I was like huh weird, but then it happened again when i went out to lunch! Anyone know what the hell is going on? Its a brand spanking new Fit Sport 11'.

You did the right thing, it's called double clutching. Gets the syncros synchronized. Happens every now and again - not a problem unless it becomes relentless, which it won't.

It happens. When you feel it not going in 1st go back to neutral and blip the clutch up. I gets the gears spinning.

If you disengage the clutch and hit 2nd right before sliding into first to get rolling that will also help get the dog teeth on the synchros up to speed with the input shaft.

Normally though, you shouldn't be having issues grabbing 1st from a stand still.. is this a problem that occurs at rest or while rolling?

Yea it is, the z i owned before this car was a automatic. It was an awesome car but the cost of ownership was killing me being that im a college student. Decided to do the sensible thing and trade it in for a fit. Pretty spunky little 1.5 the Fit has. Everytime I look at the mpg im getting compared to the z, i have a mini joygasm...

It only happens from a stand still. While rolling everything is fine and dandy.

Standstill is where I've seen it as well, again it isn't an issue.

If you are getting locked out in first at a standstill or lockout at high rpm in any gear something is misaligned more often than not.

I had to re-bleed my clutch last time I had those symptoms but note this was not on the Fit, and I've never had lockout occur in the GD, even flat-shifting.

But if you say you get it too K_C I'll take your word for it.

Perhaps just another quirk of the GE's? Grind 'em till ya find 'em I guess

I get it a couple of times too. I don't try to force it, so I don't know if it would go through with enough force. I just shove it into second then first opens up.

Pretty much the same thing with reverse. I think it was mentioned somewhere (in the manual?).

This has happened to every MT I've owned from time to time. Always on the stand still. Both 1st and reverse. My accord is still rolling after 20 years and this probably happens twice a week or more when I try to back out of the garage or sometimes at a light. So just follow the advice already given here and don't sweat it--not even a little.

Mine only does it when I'm still rolling. It seems like it wont go into 1st with out going slower than 15 mph or so. Unless you really push it. Then it will slowly slide in.

I can't say it's ever happened to me. Reverse, yes. First, no, not from a standstill.
