So, I got my hood damper in the other day. For those of you that think this is an easy 5 minute install, you are mistaken.
First, you will need to remove the hood. Once that is removed, you will need to remove the windshield wiper arms. Once those are removed, you have to remove the drivers side windshield cowl (black plastic) so you can have access to the hinge. Then, you remove the hinge.
I painted my new JDM hinge that comes with the package to match the SSM. It looks good. Installation of the hinge was fairly easy after you have everything taken apart (and refer to the pictures to figure out which way to install it). Oh yeah, had to bend the portion that attaches to the headlight bolt as well. I don't believe this to be a defect, just something you have to do.
However, once I put the hood back on, the driver's side part of the hood was sticking up too high. I had to strong-arm the hinge so that it sat flush with fender (chipped a small part of my paint doing this).
BEN: Is this normal or did I do something wrong?
After all that, the hood damper is pretty sweet. Had to move my voltage stabilizer though. I had it on top of the fuse box inside the engine bay. Still haven't figured out the best location for it yet. Right now, it's just double taped to the front of the battery.
Now, if only I could figure out how to take the original hood support out as I do not need it anymore.
Thank You Ben!

Damn thats a lot more work then was originally specified. Oh well as long as it does what it is supposed to then its not that big of a deal. All in all are you satisfied with your purchase? Im still very interested in getting one but so far im waiting for some more reviews before i buy.

I'm very happy with the way it performs and very happy that I made the decision to get this.

I'm happy with mine. If you have an extra set of hands to help you out during the install, you can do it without removing the hood. I did not have any problems with the hood sticking up too high.
It was definitely quite the install, you need to first remove the plastic shroud just below the windshield after removing the wipers like dbc said. That was a royal pain. Once that is off though, it's pretty straight forward, a couple bolts and then the old hinge comes out and the new hinge goes in. I did not have any problems with the bracket that goes near the headlight. It's a tight and secure fit, but I did not need to bend it to make it fit. Once you stick in the notch into the hole, you can align it with the headlight and bolt it up. The clips holding the plastic piece are a pain, two pop out, but one is slide. You have to move the plastic piece to the outside to remove it completely.
Other than that, not too bad, definitely nice to have now! Really happy with it!
Hmmmm... I'll have to double check my hinge. Maybe it was because I painted it. I'll check it though to make sure it's seated all the way. Gotta replace some stuff I broke during the install anyway

You should email me some pics and I can help and see if there's something you have done wrong. For all the ones that I have installed, the hood didn't sit high at all so I guess maybe the hood and hinch weren't properly aligned ?

Yeah if you can post some pics of the hood closed and opened in that general area, maybe we can help you troubleshoot the problem! I don't think the paint will make that big of a difference.
Next silly question. haha. With the hood up is there a difference in height compared to regular? I have heard that it is higher but i havent gotten for sure word yet. Thanks in advance.

Never really paid attention, but I believe it is the same height...

Im curious because i will be purchasing a ram air scoop from rogue fit and it has clearance issues with the hood at regular height and if the damper brings it higher then i have to modify some things. The scoop goes above the master cylinder in the black plastic just so you know what im talking about. Thanks for the help thus far

If I remember correct, the height is just about the same if not a tiny bit lower. I remember that I couldn't use the hood stick without moving the hood up a hair after the damper was installed.
*****EDIT*****
I found the thread for the question below. Should have searched first.

Do you know where I can get one of those scoops? I want one.
The scoops are gonna be a really nice touch but i was worried that i would have to modify it cause i heard before that the damper mad the hood go higher. Thanks for the help now i know i can get the damper and the scoop and be fine. Now i just got to get up with Ben

I thought this is a 30 minutes job and it took me an hour! Here are some tips!
1. The driver side windshield cowl has a piece of soft vinyl at the end. There are studs (little vinyl feet) in them. I managed to break 3 out of 6 of them. Pry them out carefully or else you need to order a new piece.
2. The passenger and driver side cowl are hook together by a latch. I, again, manage to break the latch (the hook comes out of the passenger side and latches on to the driver side. Watch that!
3. The damper harness secures to the body by reusing the screw in the driver side head light and latch on to an existing hole in the body. The opening of the damper harness wasn't large enough so I had to pry open it. Make sure you check that. Otherwise, the screw will not align correctly.
These are the 3 things that gave me problems.
The finished product is great! The alignment of the hood is right on. Our hood is actually very light and the damper force is just right on.
P.S. I have cusco front strut bar and there is no alignment issue with it.
