front strut bars

I looked at my Fit today when I got my brake fluid changed. I notice that the front strut towers don't have any bolts. How exactly does the strut bars (J's or Mugen or Spoon) bolt up in the front? Is modification of the towers involved?

I have thought about the same thing. The strut towers dont have any bolts anywhere around it that I saw either. Cusco makes the OS type STB for the Fit for the front, rear also they make there Type I Lower Arm Bar which im also planning on getting. The rear tower covers also when taken off have no bolts around the towers for a rear stb to mount onto so im not sure how that is going to work either.

i did notice that they have 'dipples" where holes could have been made from the factory.. I hope that they didn't skip that step from the factory

I was going to ask the samething... I know the Ben from AJ-Racing should know since he has them already installed... I also noticed that some of the plastic will need to be trimmed back too...

No drilling is required. There are holes covered by factory stick so when you install the bar, you just need totake them off and bolt the bar down.

The strut towers are one of the strongest points on the body short of the actual chassis so when you got a strong piece of steel, aluminum, carbon or titanium connecting those two together naturally its gonna stiffen up the whole front side of the body. But dont expect this new change to be evident in daily driving around town as the body doesnt flex a whole lot under normal driving conditions only when pushed to its limits like around a race track.

yeah i wondered because on some cars it's really just a pointless mod, depends really on the design of a lot of other suspension items.

I cant see any suspension mod like any sort of bracing bar whether its in the front, rear, undercarriage being pointless. If you do have front and rear and any other bracing bar available the difference will be more noticable cause those bars will act like one unit much like a full race roll cage that is all interconnected for strength and rigidity. But if you dont ever road race your car or autox it or take it to its limits in one form or another, you'll never really feel the maximum benefit of these bars.

Even if you consider it pointless, it looks cool in your engine bay (H).

I might get one.

One going for like £35 on eBay, don't know if it's trustworthy though.

don't waste your money on something like a strut bar from eBay, it may be a cheap imitation. save your hard earned money for something of much better quality that actually serves its purpose...trust me, i know from past experience.=)

I have seen pics of a ebay rear strut bar on a 02+civic that had snapped from hard cornering.

Well , you pay what you get for. I have customers who bought them off Ebay and when you bolt it down, the bracket is already croked and I wonder how much strnegth can that type of bar can hold.
