bahahaha! i know the entire script of all the starwars episodes (its scary) my friends never wanna watch them with me. i actually watched episode 5 today
they didnt, cuz when luke bought them from the jawas, c3po recognized r2 and hugged him and made luke buy him too cuz he was a great unit, but luke said he had a bad "motivator" when he looked at r2. soo idkk. oh and r2 had this image come out of him when luke was messing with it and it was leia sending a messsage to obi-wan. soo r2 was set on finding obi-wan and completeing his mission when he escaped while luke was asleep and they found him. owen told luke to get their memories erased but he didntt.
they should have had their memories erased at the end of episode 3 after the luke and leia were born. Later they both served in the rebel alliance with Princess Leia and thats how they knew each other in episode 4.

"Bail Organa ordered Raymus Antilles to wipe C-3PO's memory to ensure the true lineage of Leia Organa remained unknown. Years later, but for unrelated reasons, Owen Lars told Luke Skywalker to wipe the memory of two recently acquired droids—C-3PO and R2-D2—as part of a routine procedure. The wipe, however, was never performed."
Technically half right, R2-D2 didn't get his memory wiped (at least we aren't aware of that fact).
I think this leads us to the only true conclusion to be had: GEORGE LUCAS HADN'T REALLY ALREADY WRITTEN THE PREQUELS. He just pretended to have because nobody would want to watch them knowing he just threw them together in the 90's.
