I'm new here and read through most of the posts relating to the 2009 Honda Fit. However, no details at all for Canada! Does anyone know any tidbits of information for our models/colors, etc?
I placed my pre-order on July 18 and was told to expect my car on the lot late September to early October. Hard to buy a car, sight unseen! My dealership only had a single 2008 LX on his lot, already sold so I couldn't even test drive it. I currently own a 2004 Mazda3 Sport GT so am going into this purchase pretty much on faith, based solely on the 2008 brochure and all the reviews I've read online! What a way to buy a car....

Guess no one in Canada has any details. I just got a call from a Honda dealer in Southern Ontario. He told me that Honda has bumped production and that the first batch will be on the lots "early to mid September" (his words). I read that the official release date is October 1 so I'm not sure how Honda can sell cars before then, but that's what I was told....
Well, if they don't know when they'll be on the lots, they should just tell their customers that (as my dealer in Sudbury said today). All this speculation just makes them look bad and angers their customers when they can't deliver. They have no reason to put out these delivery date predictions, other that there's some validity to them....
Two main reasons for the change. One, my Mazda3 is currently undergoing about $2500 worth of paint work to deal with rust and bubbling issues. It's entirely on Mazda Canada's tab since it's due to a factory defect. I know that rust is very pervasive and will likely return with a vengence. It took me 3 months of constant discussion to finally get Mazda to own up to the problem. Just don't want to deal with it anymore so I figure I'll trade it in right after the paint job is done (going on 5 days now with 1-2 more anticipated).
Also, of course, I wanted a car that is better on gas. Just happened that I started looking right around the time that I heard about this new 2009 Honda Fit. Good timing all around I'd say!
Hey FitCanada_Girl! I'm in a very similar boat as you. I have a 2005 Mazda3 GT Sport and want to trade it in for a 2009 Fit. I find the Mazda3 to be way sportier for my needs and sucks gas like crazy, especially with the 2.3L engine of the Sport GT. The car is all paid off so I'd like to sell it before the price depreciates even further. I want to a local Honda dealer in Markham, ON and was told the same thing about a release date for mid-September. However I'm not in that much of a rush to buy so I'd rather wait to see them in the showroom.
How exactly do pre-orders work? My dealer didn't mention anything of the sort. I don't think I'd ever buy a car sight unseen!
Actually I'm using about 35L per week (480 km, give or take) so average around 7.2 L/100KM with my 2004 Mazda3 Sport GT, automatic. I do use the cruise as much as possible and try not to accelerate/brake hard, so I think that has made a huge difference. In any event, the Honda Fit will be an improvement in my weekly fuel bill, though I don't think it will be a HUGE difference, based on the above.
I agree that ordering a car you haven't test driven, let alone SEEN is nuts! I barely got to see/sit in a 2008 Fit LX. It was sold so I couldn't test drive it. I'm basing my decision solely on the fact that I liked what I briefly saw in the 2008 and knowing that the 2009 is supposed to be an improvement in almost all areas. I also extensively researched the 2008 and most reviews (ok, all I came across) rank it as the #1 subcompact.
However, I only placed my $500 after being assured that it was fully refundable at any time. When my car does arrive, I'll take a very thorough look, test drive, THEN decide if I do want to buy it. The "pre-order/deposit" (goes towards purchase price, if you do buy it) just assures you of getting a car. All I needed to tell the dealer was the color and transmission.
I called around to alot of dealerships and few had any 2008s left. They are selling like crazy and the 2009s are expected to sell with even more intensity. I believe (from what the 2 dealers I spoke to told me) that the first "allotments" are already all reserved for customers. Therefore, if you do want one, you will likely have to wait until November. Also, once these hit the showrooms and begin to be publicised, you can believe that the demand is going to hit the roof even more! Under those circumstances, you'd be well advised to place a pre-order NOW, but be sure that it is fully refundable. You really have nothing to lose in that case since you can refuse the car once you actually do see it/test drive it....
Do you plan on trading in your Mazda3 at the dealership when you buy your car, or will you sell it privately? I'm thinking of selling privately to get more money, but then my purchase of a new car will be contingent on the sale of my current car. That's why I don't want to put any pre-order yet
Probably a private sale for more $, but that may change. From what I've read/heard, the Mazda3 is fairly easy to sell as it is still in demand. Of course getting the amount you want may not be so easy. I may go with a trade-in too. I'll see how much my Honda dealer would be willing to give me now, then decide on which way I'll go...
I just found out you can get trade-in and retail values for used cars from the Canadian Red Book. There are links to it from Honda.ca when you a price a new car for purchase. If you have a CAA membership, there is a link thru their website too but they give you more detailed pricing (I think the Honda one gives you trade-in values only and are lower than CAA). PM me your mileage and I'll tell you the value of your car.
I'm in the market as well to purchase a 2009 Honda Fit in Canada as well. I phone local Edmonton, Alberta dealers and 2 dealers said that they should be here by around September 15, 2008 while 2 others (who seemed disinterested) October to November. I just sold my 2004 pickup so I'm looking forward to a nice new vehicle that's GREAT on gas. Anyone know if the 2009 is going to have the Skyroof like the overseas model has?
No, the "skyroof" is not an option in North America. What I'd really love to know if Canada is going to have VSA (Stability Assist) as an option, as per the US? Theirs is apparently only available on their Sport model (US only has Base or Sport). In Canada, we have the Base, LX, and Sport so I'm dying to know: a. will stability assist be offered in Canada and b. on which trim level(s)?
Also note that when you call dealers, they may tell you when they'll have 2009 Fits available for YOU to buy. I believe that the first allotment at most dealerships has been reserved on pre-order. For those people, mid September seems right for delivery. For others waiting for future allotments, November would be right. Just be sure that the information you get is specific so you know when a car will be available for you to buy. Oh and, if I were you, I'd put in my pre-order/deposit NOW! I put mine in July 15 and am promised a car by mid September (first allotment)...

The 2009 will be significantly different. The current model is a VTEC engine producing 108 hp. The new one will be iVTEC producing a predicted 118 hp. The seating position is also reported to be quite improved, with the addition of a telescoping steering wheel. Driving a 2008 may give you a general idea of what the 2009 will be like, but from what I've read (all US based info, of course), the driving experience will be quite a bit different...
Found a pretty good article about the 2009 Fit for Canada. It doesnt mention colors though. Honda hasnt budged at all with pricing! The sport is $300 less though. I wish companies would just offer AC on the standard models like they do south of the border.

Estimated fuel economy is 7.2 L/100 km (city) and 5.7 L/100 km (highway) with the standard manual transmission. The estimated fuel economy for Fit with the optional 5-speed automatic transmission is 7.1 L/100 km (city) and 5.5 L/100 km (highway).
Can this be true? Fuel economy for the AT is better than MT?
Apparently yes. There is a technical reason for this which I believe you can read up on in the "Fit Talk" section....
Anyone in Canada, if you find out the colors we will be offered for the 2009, please post them here! I want a blue and was told there would be 2 options in Canada: Blue Sensation and "a lighter one". I'm hoping Tidewater Blue is offered here since that is what I put on my July 18th pre-order...
It's possible that the lighter blue would be Tide Water. There are many lists online that show the US colors. The only blue colors I see are BS (haha) and Tide Water.
Blackberry Pearl looks darker than Blue Sensation. BBP is more like purple.
I think Orange Revolution looks fantasic! I would have a tough choice between that and white if I bought an '09.
