The Three Amigos Ride Again! (BCC FL Autocross)

In the winter.... a winter like no other... a winter that felt like summer, we find ourselves once again at the field of battle. This cone-covered desert has the ability to strip one of their sanity... to tear ones soul from its chest, and spit it out on the ground! There are NO measly winners on this battlefield... here there are only CHAMPIONS!

In our last story, Silvertown returned triumphant against both Blue Boy, and the new challenger, Black Beard. It was a feirce battle, whos outcome was more unexpected than the SuperBowl... No one expected Silvertown to emerge victorious against the stone cold cone carver, Black Beard. But that day was not to be the day for Black Beard... it was the Day for Silvertown to be the victor!

Since that fateful day, things have changed... stories were exchanged. Names were called. and a new challenger arose to fight this epic battle! The new challenger was not like our trio of heros... the new challenger had rear wheel drive... a turbo... stretched tires... they did not know how to defeat him! There was no way to take down this foe individually! They must band together if they ever hoped to defeat him! So Silvertown, Blue Boy, and Black Beard shook hands, put their heads together, and became......... The Three Amigos!

The Three Amigos began their torturous hourney... on the way, they even consulted the help of the singing bush, who told them what they needed to do to defeat this new foe...

......But who was this competitor who came to defy our heros? His name..... is El Gripo!

[dramatic music] Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun..... [/dramatic music]

The battlefield was already covered in cones when the Amigos arrived, and the smell of burning oil was in the air... this day would go down in the days of days book that describes the days like this day...

Silvertown was looking for a bigger challenge... So he entered his bone stock Fit into the ultra competitive STS class, and decided to change to some new tires... little did he know, that this seemingly simple, innocuous act, would ultimately lead to his ultimately tragic demise!

Blue Boy had on different tires than the last time he was here, and was also competing in the STS class.

The biggest change in the trio was Black Beard. Black Beard decided to change his motor and transmission out to a new setup. This time, he had a B18C5 Type-R motor, and a shorter geared Transmission... all of this work was done, because he couldn't fathom losing to Silvertown once again! And even though this trio is teaming up to battle El Gripo, there was still bragging rights to be won between them!

El Gripo was on a charge... this time he brought out a big gun. He was no longer rocking the 84 Corolla. This time, he brought out a 240 that was a turbocharged, fire breathing, RWD monster!

The Three Amigos had their work cut out for them! The asphalt shook in the presence of this epic battle...

THe first run groups were up... in this group, it was only Blue Boy and Silvertown... Black Beard would be running in the second run group against El Gripo himself. There was still some bad blood here against Silvertown and Blue Boy. So far, in their personal race tallies, Silvertown was up 2-1 against Blue Boy... and Blue Boy did not want that to become 3-1 at any cost! Silvertown had just installed new tires, and was ready to rumble!

The flags on the event dropped... it was time to tear up the asphalt... to show the world what these two were made of!

Blue Boy was out first... Silvertown was further back in the line, and had to wait... but Blue Boy was tearing up the track!

This battle was fierce! They had no way of knowing whether their times would be able to one-up El Gripo... he was in a car that this trio had never seen on the autocross course before... who knows if it was going to be blazingly fast or not... They could only hope for the best, and put thier fate in the hands of the gods, and pray that their times owuld be enough!

Silvertown was fighting a tough battle! His first run was good, but it was a 'taster run'... no downshifting, just drive the course... he finished with a time of 37.649... The tires were howling like a lonely wolf in the night! However, something wasn't right. These tires were supposed to be working better than this! After his first run, Silvertown looked at his new set of shoes... they were distraught. The wear-marks extended halfway into the sidewall! Could it be? Silvertown needed more air in the tires. The only chance he had, was to make one more run, and then find a compressor... but this run would have to be done with low pressure in the tires. This was a disaster! But Silvertown pushed through the resistance, and fought the uphill battle with vigor!

Silvertown drove the course has hard as he could... flipping the little Fit from the right, to the left, and back right again... the asphalt could barely hold its bond to the earth!

Silvertown came around the last turn, and across the finish line.... he improved, with a time of 37.271! But the car felt like it was getting worse. He HAD to find a compressor. searching for days, Silvertown finally came across a compressor in the small village of dolfnor, located behind La casa de la sincronización! Silvertown was SET! He aired up his tires... but while looking at them, he noticed they were getting worse.... they felt greasy. Something wasn't right! These were supposed to be great tires! But they were falling apart. Silvertown then remembered, that as his last run was progressing, Silvertown could feel the car sliding out more and more... OH NO! Could it be? Could these tires be causing him to LOSE traction, rather than gain it? Silvertown was CRUSHED! All the work over the last month to get new door magnets made was going to be all for naught...

Silvertown made his way over to the starting line again to face his own personal symphony of music... all he could do is try, and hope that he would have enough traction to not be mistaken for an ice skater.

SIlvertown started his third run... the tires spinning off the line, and going into the first turn.... it felt ok. Going through the slalom, he could feel the car start to not respond well... then going into the first sweeping turn, it was over... Silvertown was pushing harder than the little train that could! The car would barely turn! Silvertown pushed on, fighting the losing traction battle... As he crossed the line, he knew that this time would not be his best... and the proof was in the LED's on the display board... 37.583..

Silvertown had one more attempt at failure... it was not to be on this day. The last run was even slower... the slowest time for him of the day, at a 37.959. It was clear that Silvertown needed tires more suited towards racing. Normal street tires wouldn't be able to cut it anymore.

The bigger worry on Silvertowns mind though, was not his tires... it was his times. Would his best time of 37.271 be able to help his trio? Would they be able to eclipse El Gripo? Only time will tell... Silvertowns thoughts turned to Blue Boy, who was running in the same run group as him... how did he do? Where was he? Silvertown had to track down his friend, and find out what had become of him!

Finally, he found Blue Boy.. they discussed thier runs... Blue Boy was still learning his car and the setup... the tires were better than last time.. In his first run, Blue boy slammed out a time of 42.188... he had 3 more runs to go, and they were all about the same time, which his third time being his best of 41.858... With Silvertowns best time of 37.271, and Blue Boys time of 41.858, there was still a tough road to climb... but there was still one more competitor left to challenge... and that was Black Beard!

Black Beard and El Gripo were in the same run group! This would be a fierce battle! Small FWD Honda CRX versus the larger and way more powerful 240 of El Gripo.

Black Beard took his flag and was off and running! Turning right, turning left... this new motor was amazing! He had to re-learn his entire setup! This was like a whole new car! Run, after run, he was slowly learning his setup. On his first run, he was already a little bit faster than Silvertown, with a time of 37.143! This should be a FAST setup!

On his 4th and final run, Black Beard took the flag! He tore up the course! If the asphalt thought that Silvertown gave it a hard time, then it was in for a surprise by Black Beard! He was taking turns like no other! Across the finish line he came, with an outstanding time of 36.341!!!

But could it hold a candle to El Gripo?

El Gripo took the start, with his fire-breathing turbo monster... he accelerated out of the hole... this car was FAST! The turbo spooled up, and shot him into hyperspace! The Three Amigos were worried! Would this be their demise? Would any of them survive this warm winter day? We had to wait and see...

El Gripo was on it... run, after run, he was chipping away at our heros souls... first to go down was Blue Boy... El Gripo took the first and loudest shot on his first run with a time of 37.644. Blue Boy was down. Silvertown didn't know what to expect next! Black Beard was fighting for everyones lives! His shoulders bore the weight of the entire event for the Three Amigos! If Silvertown went down, it would be only him between El Gripo and the world!

As Blue Boy and Silvertown listened intently to find out how El Gripo did, there was a problem! They weren't announcing the times anymore! We had to wait until they posted the results...

Minutes after the last run had been made, the results of the race were posted on the side of the the trailer. There is was in black and white.... Silvertown had been beaten! El Gripo had a fast time of 37.216, to Silvertowns best time of 37.271... only 0.055 seconds separated El Gripos 240 from Silvertowns Fit.... Silvertown was defeated!

But wait! Black Beard had defeated Silvertown on his first run by 0.128 seconds! This means that Black Beard was able to defeat El Gripo!!! Black Beards fastest time of 36.341 was 0.875 seconds faster than El Gripo!

The crowd cheered heroically for Black Beard! They even threw him a ticker-tape parade! But with there being no ticker tape in this small town, they just threw bits of TP at him! It was fantastic! Black Beard had accomplished the impossible and won the day!

Silvertown and Blue Boy though had been beaten as well... while today they were The Three Amigos, tomorrow they would once again be themselves... a win like that does not go without someone being upset, and Silvertown and Blue Boy vowed that the next time they step on this field of battle, that the cones will fall in their favor, and help them to upset the great Black Beard. He cannot be allowed to win again. As the Three Amigos drive off into the sunset, they reflect on the day, and proudly shake El Gripos hand for a having valiant battle. Perhaps next time El Gripo will team up with Silvertown and Blue Boy to defeat Black Beard? Crazier things have happened... in the end, they all depart as friends... this hot, sweltering winter day will not be the last day that these foes take this field... and so, until the next time.. keep it shiney side up
