34.6 MPG - My best MPG to date.

My previous trip to L.A. and back was only 31.5 mpg. That was with 1 passenger, doing 70mph average. I purposely drove slower because I read that the best cruising speed was around 65-70 for optimum mpg. Guess I proved that theory wrong yesterday.

and at 85 mph-speeding ticket and lost all I saved on gas. I've got 6500 miles and these are all measured averages all highway miles. In the average city highway mix I get 36 mpg, no more speeding but I'd love to know what it would get at 100 mph? Anyone checked up there in montana?

what shift points do you guys use with the 5 spd (at) non-sport
mine doesn't want to shift any lower than 3k in first second and third (that seems to be a good enough to keep up with stop and go traffic)

my cruise 40-50 mph city is around 1.8-2k and feels good

my last average was 27 mpg 80% city

:side note: my tranny shifts kinda slow (i'm used to a MT) and seems to slip a tiny bit between gears is that normal???

Went to Virginia for Thanksgiving the best fuel mileage I got was 39.6 mpg. 297 miles on 7.5 gallons of gas. Unfortunately I had 4 people in the car, luggage for four people and the A/C on. However I was cruising around 65 - 70 mph the whole time.

Still in search of 40 mpg!!!

I accelerate pretty slow now compared to when I had an MT. With the way I accelerate, the car shifts before it gets to 3K rpm. Sometimes when I feel like it's going to go over 3K I adjust my foot off the gas a little bit to force the tranny to shift.

You're getting pretty low MPG also. So it's not just me, it's San Diego and it's damn hills!

I have an 08 MT.

If I shifted at 2.5K and kept top speed under 65, say 55-60mph, I would get 38mpg though I have gotten as high as 42. This is with stock 15" Dunlop tires inflated to 33psi all around.

That said, my Dunlops wore out after 30K mi and I replaced them with Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports 205/45/16 (on lightweight SSR wheels) with 35psi front and 33 psi rear. Driving a little more aggresively I got 32 mpg. After adjusting front pressure to 40psi and rears to 35 psi and back to conservative driving, I was able to acheive 37.5 mpg.

I expect once some of the tread is worn down off the new Birdgestones it'll be a bit easier to get better mileage.

I've been keeping track of mine as she "breaks in"... at 242 miles I was averaging 29.3, and now at 324 the average is up to 29.7. I figure once I hit the first oil change I'll reset it for more accurate figures. This is mostly city driving too, so I can't wait til she's fully broken in to see how she does.

i have an 08 AT Base and i just filled up.
50/50% city/hwy i got 32 mpg at about 70 mph hwy
90% hwy got 37mpg avg 70mph with 1 passenger
90% city with spirited driving got 28mpg

i now have about 3600 miles on the clock.

the 32mpg was my most recent fill up.

I think I win. 186 miles, 8.9 gallons, 20.89 mpg. This was accomplished by saying unplowed streets be damned! I'm still going 10 over the speed limit.

on a 790 mile road trip(one way) to Iowa from Ky(and back) i got 39.9 MPG on the way back 35-39 MPG

this was with just me and avg speed at 65 MPH

Just got back to work tonight after 173 miles and cracked the 46mpg mark for the first time. I got 46.6 at an average of 60mph. I have 6400 miles on it and still 50% on the oil life.

Does anybody else notice that the fuel economy seems to jump all over the place?

My wife and I track fuel economy religiously. We keep a running graph of the average of the last five fills. Hers looks like the prairies. Mine looks like the Himalayas.

I have a 2008 Sport Auto which recently had its first A1 service

I use the mpg measurement technique described in the manual

90% highway/10% city with no AC, 34psi on the tires I got

36.7 mpg!!! The car has 6.5K on it so far.

I get something like 31mpg for all city driving (I accelerate slowly and mind the speed limit)

My guess...do you have kids? Is she usually in charge of the kid shuttle?

Do you have different places you GO when you drive?

for instance, she might have a certain route that is generally consistent with it's traffic. If she has work or kid shuttle duty or errands, she might have pretty much the same traffic, which DOES allow for a fairly consistent gas mileage.

On the other hand, you might have a route that is wildly variable. Are you able to get to where you're going easily and quickly on some days? And other days traffic is backed up, thanks to an accident or road construction?

Sure, that's going to make a HUGE difference in your gas mileage.

There are also driving habits. If you do have kids, you might drive more conservatively if they are in the car. If your wife has the shuttle duty, she probably drives in such a way to keep the kids from throwing up. LOL!

there are many reasons why MPG would vary. Even road surfaces. You might have to drive to different areas, and some days you get a nice smooth surface, other days a bumpy one.

Weather, a rain-slicked road hiding pot holes in certain areas, that could slow you down in certain spots.

It's not just what you drive, but how you drive and where you drive.

last 4 fills have been 26.7-29.1 mpg. this next one is looking to be 25mpg or less. which is on par w/ my 1988 M3. which is terrible for a modern car that is sooo slow.

i'm glad my wife likes the car, because this is really pissing me off. i did, once, achieve 40+ mpg in this car, but hazardous weather forced a very slow interstate drive that would be totally unsafe in normal conditions.

I got a 08 sport (and I love the car) but the MPG are like a joke.
The max I got Once only! was 25.5 PG

Yeah, although the best-mileage Euro cars run on diesel. It's still way more economical than what we're getting here.

Thanks, Congress, for ethanol in my gas tank! I appreciate the 5-10% loss of mpg just when gas prices went up.
