with my latest tank i have real MPG numbers to back up the OE oil additive argument

264.3 @ 6.53 gals= 40.47 mpg

this was cruising on the highway for 90% of the miles at 75mph. amazing.


since i bought it, i have consistently been getting 34-35mpg by cruising at 75mph. i changed the oil, and with summer-like warm ambient temps for this last week in Nov (high 60s) i was able to break 40mpg mark.

i was only able to break the 40mpg mark on the original oil by driving 68mph. that was also achieved before i installed cruise control.

mmmm. I have to say BS, in a polite way.

Reasons are the below variables:

1. Pump fill error(my number one reason)
2. Weather(temp, humidity, wind, precipitation)
3. Traffic

Not saying it can't be done, 75mph at 40mpg, but the reasoning for your difference is not substantiated, some difference yes but that big of a difference I doubt it. It seems like when I get to the end of my oil life I have increased mpg which would make sense due do to the decrease in viscosity.

Also, you maybe trying(possibly subconsciously) to increase your mpg or else you wouldn't be posting here.

my post wasn't clear enough then, because the differences are NOT that great:

1. OEM/original oil, 68mph cruising highway= 40.1mpg
2. after first oil change, 75mph cruising highway= 40.4mpg


ambient temps/weather/precip for the weeks in comparison were nearly identical. my fill-up methodology is the same station and pump. fill 5 gals, then top off last 2 gals slowly. it's totally feasible, IMO when you guys have posted about getting 43mpg at 65-68mph.

Me thinks you did not notice the tail wind, unless you changed from the OEM 5W-20 to 3 in 1 oil or left out a qt.

Nobody can get 40mpg at steady 75mph on flat ground, not drafting and no tail wind.

I have gotten a little over 38 mpg at 75 and 80 mph last February. I am probably going to drive slower in the future, but not for fuel economy reasons. I got a speeding ticket as I was rounding an uphill turn and shifting into 4th gear. 76 in a 60, $159.00. My first in 27years, and the dude didn't notice the redneck in the pickup that was nailed to my rear bumper.

Texas Coyote - LOL! That is what got me driving better, a damn speeding ticket.

x98myers7 - again, I am not doubting your mpg, just the reasoning for achieving it. I have realized while trying to achieve better mpg, it is the little things you haven't thought about or noticed before that make the biggest difference.

You get a "Hell Yeah" from me. I wasn't all that impressed till I saw it was in 100% city driving. I have 304 miles on my odometer and 1/2 on the fuel gauge but it is all highway and rural roads. Did you have an egg taped to the bottom of your right shoe or what??

ok, so now i'm REALLY confused. i topped off again tonight.

132.1 miles @ 3.14 gals = 42.07mpg

WTF? seriously... 75mph cruising for 85% of those miles. the rest was city using only DFCO and timing stop lights to idle as little as possible.

my guess is the same as before, pump error or fill error. Gas stations usually have several pumps. If someone else or many others are filling up at the same time then this will affect the pump rate and the auto shut off rate, I hope it doesn't affect the actual gallons pumped! It should average out in the end, though. I know I have been shorted at the pump several times but I figured it was only like 0.5gallons at most the and the difference in mpg is typically no greater than 3mpg.

I did the fill up until the nozzle click off, at the same pump, method for awhile, and my averages were all over the place, very inconsistent. I fill to the top now, and no more outrageous inconsistencies with my fuel mileage figures.

I did that for a few tanks but I got scared because I thought my fuel gauge was stuck on F. I quit and I have also heard that it is bad for the evap system. Keep us posted on whether you are having problems or not. I am too chicken.

i fill 5 gals at lowest level, then fill slowly until it auto stops. count to 10 then fill until it auto stops. count to 10 again, fill until auto stops.

it's still inconsistent

i have never had a car so hard to consistently fill

hey guys do any of you guys get poor gas mileage now that the fit is broken into?

You need to fill it to the top to where you can see the gas about to spill out. That will be as consistent as you can get. It takes like 5minutes

Oh, from my experience it will take up to an additional 3 gallons after the first auto shut off. I didn't believe it until I did it myself.
