Good job Paul, this will definitely be over a 60mpg tank. I have officially lost all patients with going slow to achieve 60mpg tanks. Now, I did achieve 54mpg for the commute to work this morning. Hell, I filled up Wednesday with $1.51 a gallon for gas. No need to get 60mpg any more at that price.

I am not expecting gas mileage miracles, but it would be nice to average 35 mpg. I do about 70% highway and 30% city. I am wondering how much the high revs at 80 mph will hurt my highway numbers. That will be a seperate test down the line, once the car has about 5000 or 6000 miles on it.
I travel to Wyoming alot on I-80 at 80+ MPH and average 41mpg so for me high revs no effect. and there are lots of hills on that road
with gas at 4 year lows... the inconvience of hypermiling does not justify the cost savings
i have simply been setting the cruise at 71mph and cruising. honestly, i'm pretty disappointed to only be getting EPA estimates by doing so. hopefully my numbers will go up significantly as ambient temps get up into the 60s/70s.

BS. this is totally impossible unless you have some magic vehicle that defys the laws of physics.
you are not filling consistently if you are actually able to calculate this after a fill up.
For the last 2 months my mpg has been the in the mid to upper 40's. I haven't paid over $1.85/gallon since November 10, 2008.
For the other guy getting 41mpg at 80mph..............must be a good bit of down hill. I know for my commute if I set cruise at 60mph(when I can and it is about 2/3 of the commute) I can get 43mpg with out trying.
Oh, I test drove the Insight II and the HCH II and I was disappointed. The 7.5mile loop I took I could achieve the same mpg with the fit. When I set the hybrides on cruise at 60mph for 1.5miles I was able to get 50mpg. That is good but if I can get 43mpg with the Fit then it is not worth it to me. I will just have to wait for the Tesla Sedan in 2011.

I'd say it was a tail wind. That makes a huge difference in the Fit when P&Ging.
Man did this area get dead like a duck when gas cost dropped. Even the FE Haters and Troll intruders eased off.
To give you a feel for the P&G/ FAS I'm at 8300 miles on this oil and still reading 40% oil left
BTW I get low 40's FE when on CC and 55 to 60 no problem.
So how did you get to test drive a Insight II? How did it feel, drive compared to the Fit? They drained the sale out of my future when the said it would be over $20k for a decent one. No way will I get the cheap one.

The stealer ship in the little town I work in had three the day they were for sale. They sold one that day and I test drove the blue one(I really like the blue on the Insight better that the Fit!). I like the folding rear seats but it doesn't have as much room as the fit(obviously) and the rear seats don't lay as flat as the fit's. I did like the sport shifters in the insight ii (which the HCHii lacks). The "S" mode for the sport paddle shifters is neat but it does not cut off when at a stop. The regular drive mode does. That should be nothing but a software update/mod/glitch/fix. IMHO the insight ii is more aesthetically pleasing than the HCHii. I am a whole 5'6" so both cars had pleanty of room for me. I think the HCHii might have a little more seat room for driver and passenger than the Insightii. The sales manager was willing to give me the HCHii(w/o navi) for 20K(with low interest rates at 2.9-3%) while the Insight ii ex is selling for 22.9k and typical 6.9% honda rate!?!?!
I don't believe they will come out with a viable(money to mpg ratio) car for at least 5years(I hope I am wrong!) I still want to see what the Tesla sedan is going to be like.........
Paul, just for you my mpg average is 52.2 according to my spread sheet and yes I am too lazy to post all those damn tanks!

The life time average for my Fit (practically every mile its been driven has been recorded) is up to 41.5 mpg. Projections indicate the lifetime average should eventually be between 42 and 44 mpg.
I hit a high of just over 47 mpg and have been over 45 mpg several times. With some luck I'll hit 50 mpg this summer.
I got 39mpg on a city tank. That's never happened before for me o_O I usually get 32-35mpg in the city. (I'm not complaining, though!)

I dont drive my 07 base manual enough to be constantly checking mileage, but it was similar

Well, I can't speak for others, but I've got a Ph.D. in physics and have been gainfully employed doing physics for over a decade, so dividing miles by gallons with a calculator (or writing a code to do that and make graphs) is pretty easy for me.

Read up on "hypermiling" techniques, try them then come back and pass judgement again.
For myself, I turn off the engine and cost down a lot of hills on my daily commute. Search through my posts and find the elevation profile of my commute (as well as data from several tanks, alternatively go to CleanMPG, An authoritative source on fuel economy and hypermiling and look at my mileage log as well as others who post here). I can do 60 mph down some of the hills. This gives me tens of miles each tank that are "free" which increases the mpg. Also I turn off the engine and coast up to stop lights. That also saves gas. I usually drive at speeds between 50 and 60 mph (over 75% of the time at 55 mph). I commute about 70 miles daily (35 miles each way) and do about 60 miles of that on the highway. All that adds up to tanks between 41 and 47 mpg. Including the few months I didn't hypermile (and drove at 80 to 90 mph) and the lifetime average falls to about 41.5 mpg.
I recently went past 10,000 miles on our base, manual '08 Fit. Cumulative mpg data are: miles 10,491, 259.4 gallons of regular unleaded used, average = 40.44 mpg.
Personally I think the EPA numbers are kind of low. My wife and I did three 3,000 mile trips (VA to CA) in her 08 sport AT. All highway, car loaded down with us, two dogs, and a bunch of heavy junk, tires set to 32 psi, cruise control usually set at 80 and the lowest we'd get was 33 mpg. That was if we were on undulating terrain.
