41-42 is right on the money of where a normally driven Fit should be, probably even better since the 09+ are geared shorter. Keep up the good work
I just filled up: 45.1 MPG.
That's 534.2 miles/tank for those keeping score at home...
I think the Mishimoto CF shorty intake has helped due to higher intake temps.
Hmm, I should look into the intake possibilities. I'd love to achieve even 500 miles on my tank. Is that after running it past empty? Or was this at the point of the gas light turning on? That would blow mah mind! But I'm still damned happy with even 40+ xD.

That was about 10 or 15 miles after the gas light came on. But that also included filling almost to near the top. You can "fit" about 2 gallons more after the pump clicks off, it just takes a bit of time, because you have to wait for the foam to go down.
I can usually drive about 150-160 miles from "pegged" to the "F" slash.
Anyway, keep up the good work man!

i don't know how you guys do it. i average around 32-36mpg with mixed city/highway. the highest i've done was ~40-42mpg on my road trip from vallejo, ca to biloxi, ms. i don't drive like a jerk, i drive pretty conservative mostly. where is the best shift point? i usually shift at around 2600-3000. is that too high? i don't want to shift too fast to a higher gear to over load the engine. i wish we had a 6th gear for the freeways.

Depending on the gear or how fast I'm going I tend to shift a bit lower. Generally around 2000-2200 RPM's, which can be too low at times, so I don't always. But, if I'm doing flat driving I get better MPG's (city speeds) in higher gears.

I have filled up 4 times with my new Honda Fit Sport. Every time the electronic average MPG indicator shows my average MPGs to be 2-5MPG more than my odometer/fuel pumped calculations. Is everybody else experiencing the same difference?
Either the electronic indicator is wrong or the gas stations are under pumping gas.
6th sounds great but what we really need is just a longer 5th. All they would do with a 6 speed is copy and paste the ratio for 5th to 6th, then make 2-5 shorter.
Honda is prioritizing peppy over MPG in the Fit, the 09s have an even shorter highway gearing than the 07-08.

Final: 4.294
3.25 engine revs per axle rotation in 07-08
09:
5th: 0.727
Final: 4.62
3.36 engine revs per axle rotation in 09.
So the 09s are revving 3.3% higher than the 07-08, and get only 93.5% of the combined fuel economy of the 07-08

If I extrapolate, then the 2039 fit will probably get around 9 MPG and be at 7613 RPM on the highway.
Beginning of the month trip to NYC from South Hadley, MA: moved a friend from Queens to Brooklyn, drove around both cities with stop and go around rush hour then back=43mpg. Week after to the beach in New Hampshire to Newbury Port then back home= 42 mpg. Work week, 15% highway= 39.7mpg. Not too shabby!
I believe I read that the U.S. market Fits have been geared lower because of the added weight to meet safety requirements, lower octane fuel and fat people not to mention the obsession with 0 to 60 times..... British motorcycles were geared lower for the U.S. and Harley-Davidson put an international belt pulley and shorter drive belt on the big twins sold overseas.
I just filled up. I know this is not impressive but 339.9 and refilled 8.158 = 41.66mpg. This is driving the car hard, hitting VTEC and sometime going 5k-6k rpms. This is excellent mpg for a Fit driven hard.

It's the electronics. Gas station pumps are tested by duh gummint every so often, and it really doesn't pay them to cheat.

Light foot on the go pedal with tach 2k-3K seems to work best.
A/C really works that tiny motor too.
A light car and short gearing really hurts it on the downhills.
I think neutral coasting would really boost the mileage on the downhills.
I have a 2 mile downhill where the Fit slows down on a 5th gear coast.
My 04 Odyssey is accelerating on its own and would be happy to be doing 75 without some braking to keep it in check.

Completely stock. I drive to and from work at odd hours, with only a few lights on the drive.
I know a lot of people don't like the real-time mileage bar, but it seems to remind me to keep a light foot on the gas.
I mostly coasted in gear, but I found I was losing a lot of speed doing so, so I experimented with neutral coasting. I was having to accelerate too much at the end of the downhill. I've been minimizing the A/C usage.
My 2nd tank isn't looking as good though. I went into Seattle for a Mariners game. Between the heat and the traffic, I think I am going to lose a few MPG. Plus I have a twisty back road I just HAD to try out on the way to work.
My real time bar spent a lot more time near the 20 MPG mark on that trip
First fill tonight, actual was 31.8, though the gauge read 36.9, so not sure what that is about. But, not bad compared to the 14 or 15 on my old Jeep. Stock, brand new Sport M/T that I've been taking out joyriding to break her in
