I've had my 2008 Fit Sport MT since May08 and now have about 11K miles. I've had as much as 47 mpg, as little as 27 mpg, and usually 31-35. Calculating mileage accurately by filling up the tank is difficult because of the small size of the tank. Small variations each fillup cause big differences in calculated mileage. Still, they do average out over many fillups. Using a scan gauge helps my mileage because I'm always aware of it. Now I coast as much as possible and sometimes I even turn off the engine at long stoplights. The scan gauge is also suspectible to variations in filling up the tank. I guess the new Fits have a built in gauge?
Also, I've noticed the A/C cuts down mileage by around 5 mpg. I guess that little engine has to work hard just to cool off the cabin. Note the A/C works when the defroster is on as well. I think the mileage hit is worst when I'm coasting so now I try to maximize my cooling off (and now defrosting) during my acceleration periods.
Lastly, I noticed a few years ago that my old girlfriend's Audi A3 got much better mileage during hilly driving than flat steady driving (about 25-29 mpg, as I recall). I got over 40 mpg driving from the town of Joshua Tree, CA, up undulating hills to Joshua Tree National Park, then a long steady downhill to the town of Twenty Nine Palms, CA. I think the short uphill bursts were more than made up by the downhill coasting. I've seen this trend, to a lesser degree, in my Fit but haven't repeated the Joshua Tree run. Anyone else ever notice this?
Oh yeah, why does my Fit MT rev about 3500 rpm at 70 mph whereas a Fit AT only has to rev about 2900 rpm and both get about the same mileage?
Ok so I've had my new Honda Fit Sport for 2 months and after 1600 miles I have gotten an average of 40.2 mpg with a mix of 70/30 highway/city driving. I couldn't be much happier with this.

I've owned my GE for about 6 weeks. Discounting the dealer supplied first tankful, my mileage has averaged 39.2 MPG over about 2500 miles, with a best tankful of 41 MPG. I'm a happy guy.
I can get over 40, but unlike others here, I'm not gonna lie and say it's my overall average. Try keeping a log of EVERY fillup, don't go by the bullshit on your scan gauge, and don't just keep the good tanks for the average and throw out the ones you weren't happy with. THEN let's talk.
Very consistent 37 to 38.7 with more on the high side of these numbers. I make up for my occasional foot down driving by doing below the speed limit driving when traffic permits and coasting .... Very light 9 1/5 Lb. wheels and high tire pressure 50Lb.s, Intake, axle back and premium fuel. I have had a low of 33 and a high of 42 once 40 once and over 39 a few times in 22000 miles. The handling is a little twitchy in high speed turns and too many rattles with the tire pressure, so I am going to have to drop it down a bit or maybe a lot if it doesn't kill my mileage figures.

No one should be logging based on the scanguage. Trip odometer / gallons to fill.
Just got my 09 fit and am getting great mpg so far. I have to drive about 200 miles a day and did little over 800 miles on about 19 gallons of fuel. When I bought the car I knew it wasent a race car so I dont drive it like one. Be nice to you fit and you will get great mpg.
Live on the east coast and drive 80/20 highway/city. After three tanks of fuel (21.93 us gallons) total of 888 miles equals 40.5 mpg. I don't go over 65 and seldom over tree grand on the tack. I am very pleased.
I have to change my choice after getting the right conversion. We are using kilometers and liters so i mistakenly computed to 28 MPG, i actually put 36 liters of gas in and traveled 413kilometers with it. My correct MPG should have been 32-33.
It has been reported that that Fit's avg fuel consumption indicator does a little bit of "padding" the numbers. I'm starting to track my numbers with Fuelly.com to see if this is in fact the case. Anyone comparing the actual numbers with their avg. mgp indicator's numbers?

I was surprised to find that my wife's new Subaru Forester reads no more than one MPG off at fill ups.... It is always an optimistic reading but surprisingly closer than most cars..... I wonder if the readings vary using different octane rated fuel since most of the world uses higher octane fuel than we do.
