2009 Sport(AT) with 43.8 mpg on the gauge, what am I really at?

My goal is to get over 40mpg on my first full tank. Right now, with a quarter tank left I have 43.8 on the trip average MPG reading. Will this be enough to crack the 40mpg level once I actually calculate it?

I'm just curious what other people are experiencing on the gauge when they get a 40+ manually calculated MPG number.

Thanks,
-Gary

Thats pretty impressive for a AT.
Was it all highway driving?

I'd say that converts to about 39-40mpg, im not 100% sure on that though.

my guess would also be around 39 mpg. The gauge is usually about 4 mpg higher than calculation.

You will know when you fill up though.

I agree, you're probably getting high 30s. Two tanks in a row I got 42.2 on the gauge and 35-36 for real.

Well I got gas this morning. It read 44.1 on the gauge. Calculated MPG = 39.33. I'm very pleased. I could get over 40 if I wanted to and its not even a hybrid.
