2009 Sport vs base & stick vs auto mileage questions

First post here, I did some searching but I would like some advice.

I am torn between buying sport vs base and stick vs auto. I personally prefer stick vehicles but it seems as though the auto fit gets about the same mpg as stick. Logic would state that the lighter the car the better the mpg. How does the auto respond to P&G and other hypermiling tricks?

I am leaning towards a stick sport and then putting 15" light wheels and skinny tires on it. Is there a carbon fiber hood available for it? Or any other lightweight mods?

Thanks in advance

If you drive a lot of highway, consider the auto. It has a taller 5th gear and quieter.

If economy is what you are looking for. Check out the new Insight when it's released.
