I clicked over 6400 miles recently (and finally changed the oil from factory break-in to Mobil 1), and I calculated my lifetime mileage with the Fit:

6416 miles / 153.1 gallons = 41.9 mpg

Wheee!

Alright, I have pumped the tires up 55psig, I will need to get a new tire pressure gauge because I just realized mine only goes to 50psig. So, I had to use the gauge on the air pump at the gas station.

I think I will try 60 psi on the next tank. The mpg gurus seem to get the best mpg and longer life at 60 psi without compromising safety.

Just got back from a trip to the Smokey Mountains. I think I may of been in Shane's neck of the woods. I-95 to I-26 West to I-40 into Bryson City. No phone no WWW just me and the fam chillin'
Took the wife's 1999 V6 AT Accord. 2000 miles RT. Set the cruse for 72 and recorded 33.5mpg reg gas. No hyper-milling tech at all. Car has 140k miles. WOW the hills. I also got some of that $3.78/ gas. Was great to wake up in 51F weather I'll mis that as I'm home and it's back to swamp conditions.


I'll be starting the week with my Fit tank avg at 53 and just past 1/2 tank. I'd like to see if I get 60mpg for the tank and a 600 mile tank this fill. Last to runs using P&C was 60 and 65mpg

Just an update - I drove 210 miles at 55psig and noticed a bit stiffer ride(which is expected) than at 50psig. I was driving the speed limit(60-70mph) using cruise control encountering very little traffic on the interstate and noticed no handling differences than at 50psig.
NOTE: I forget how the FIT handles in the 30psig range.-seriously.

I used A/C (the wife is demanding) so I will be lucky to get 45mpg this tank.

I purchased an air pressure gauge that goes up to 60psig and had my tires rotated and balanced - I think they decreased my psig because the ride feels softer.

66.4 MPG for me over 15.8 mi back from Lowe's & Haircut.
Tank is at exactly half with 324mi. (within 3 mi of half tank on my 55 MPG tank). If conditions stay good I'm hoping to be close to 550mi again before fillup.

Well, I just filled up with 8.6 gallons and went 415.6 miles = 48.3mpg at $3.81 per gallon. I used a Wal-Mart gas station so the gallons are suspect but I guess it will average out.

This tank had 210miles of highway driving going the speed limit from 60-70mph using cruise control and A/C I would think it would of been around 45mpg.


I just pumped the tires to 60psig and it is raining here, the true test of traction, and I have not noticed any down side to the higher pressure even taking corners fast like I usually do to conserve that fuel. The tires don't look bad. I will have to take a picture to show you people.

I do not notice any bulging of the middle of the tire which was my major concern. The drive to work tomorrow will be the true test.

That is what I am trying to find out. You will have to draw your own conclusions as I am trying to do that now.

So, I have put ~200miles on the tires at 60psig and have notice what SEEMS to be better handling around corners and a few more seconds longer at coasting. I haven't notice any decrease in braking(I don't remember what normal braking is like). The bumps and uneven ground are very noticeable but tolerable.

The Cornering is subjective - what seems to be handling better may be do to the car skidding and me not noticing since I don't hear the wheels chirp.

i thought tires increase in pressure as they are warmed up from driving, i just don't want to blow a tire while i'm on the freeway. that won't be fun at all

New update for the latest fill-ups:
Gallons Miles Tank's MPG (#)
10.102 424.90 42.06098 (1)
9.134 379.50 41.54806 (2)
9.284 409.80 44.14045 (3)
That's 11 straight 40+ mpg tanks in a row now.

In general, I filled up one click past the shut off, I did quite a bit of drafting, kept my speed under 65 mpg, but over 55 mpg, a lot of downhill in neutral gliding on the highway, some pulse and gliding and shut off the engine and costed up and waited at long traffic lights.

(1) and (3) were my usual commute driving with some A/C during the 95+ days. (2) was more city driving with passengers and A/C. (3) I worked in more FAS with some gliding to red stop lights and FAS gliding down a big hill off the highway.

Just adding up the total gallons and miles gives: 245.11 gallons over 9450.0 equals 38.55412 miles per gallon.

Finding the mean mpg of the fillups listed above gives 38.51939 mpg with an error on the mean of 0.6140019.

Either way it looks like the lifetime average for my Fit is 38.5+-0.6 mpg.

My CleanMPG chart keeps looking nicer all the time:


I made a fit to this plot with mpg=a*(1.0-b*exp(c*x)) where x is number of days since my first fill-up, that is x=1 is the "day number" of my first fillup. This is my simple attempt to estimate the "limiting mpg" of my Fit. That is what is the mpg as x tends towards infinity. Based on the mpg data I've recorded the fit gives a limiting mpg of 52.6+-0.4 with a chisquare of 1.1, not too shabby. The fit is good (I'll show it when I get a chance) and the value of the limiting mpg agrees well with some of the better mpg reports posted on this forum.

You are right at the point I was 2 weeks ago and doing the same stuff that works for me. If you want to make a +10mpg leap, start pulse a gliding. Ask and I tell you how I do it.

BTW That white dotted line in the Cleanmpg trend, is the mean line for your data set
