Mileage reports: Manual transmission (5MT)

I had a measured 1 gal ready for what I was expecting. Remember I said I'd run it empty. I think mine holds more than Honda Spec of 10.7gal, based on my test. I have not tested this pump (pump 8) with my measure 1 gal milk jug. Next time I go I'll do that.

I'm going back to my old routine, but with A/C. Unless I get some additional training, I think I have reached my limits.

Very disappointed with my try at P&G. When I saw the 65 and 70 on the SG and how I got the crap beat out of me for saying P&G was BS I just figured it was pretty cool. O well.

i got injured at work today, *cut my finger and had to get 3 stitches woohoo!*, i got 43mpg on the way to work, i got 43mpg on the way to the hospital, 50mpg on the way to the BK lounge, 50mpg on the way back to work, and 47mpg on the way back home from work.

matt How about using the cleanmpg log to backup your results? SG mpg can be way off depending how you drive and I think I have read you do a P&G of sots. So 50 may easly be 17% less (43mpg) based on test data.

Paul, Our tanks have got to be bigger than 10.8 gallons and/or the pumps are wrong.

There is another thread where some one is claming to easily put an extra 2.5 gallons each time when they fill up. My guess is the tanks are bigger.


I was really thinking I might need to get a SG since you and Rich were seeing 60-70mpg numbers..........you almost made a believer of me!

i tried p&g and i didn't get good results. so i dont use it. i only FAS, DWB, DFCO, and tailgate trucks

btw, i ignore signatures. especially ones with pictures. actually, im gonna check if there is a way to disable tehm.

You guys probably already know this but... the Fit has a long fuel filler tube before it gets to the tank, thats most likely accounting for the difference in what the mfr stated and what is observed. (with regards to capacity and such)

And this is a really silly thing to add but I will anyway...
The Fits fuel gauge reads higher when the vehicle is leaning forward, and reads less when leaning backward. Just lill observations from....well...um....being observant.

I Have been driving really hard lately and just had my first oil change, so my numbers have dropped a coulple to a few mpg overall but I willl get back to hopefully those few 37-38mpg 100% city tanks soon....errr I hope.

Oh and one more thing...
I noticed a little while back you can actually hear the difference when you are drafting versus just being out in the open on a non windy day. The wind sounds scratchier (haahaa) when not drafting and sounds slightly more like buffeting when drafting. (yes it was a very boring drive )

Snap Fit - I have noticed that about the fuel gauge since I encounter lots of hills. However, I use to turn my car on and off so much I could always tell where my fuel gauge is when on level ground to give me a good estimate of what my mileage is and I haven't been off by more than 3mpg on my guestimates.

Matt - why do you trust so much in the SG and not bother calculating the mpg with miles driven divided by gallons used? I understand that all pumps vary some but in the long run everything will average out. That is the best we will ever get.

P.S. - at half a tank I have 250miles w/o P&G, FAS. I have been using CC, A/C(sparingly) and driving 5mph under the speed limit unless the speed limit is 35-40mph. Like Paul stated earlier, P&G is really a pain.

I drive the hell out of it, regularly pushing it to 5,000rpm. I rarely have the need for a highway, but when I do get on I tend to go between 60-70mph. I've pushed it to 100 a couple times. All on the first 300 miles before the light came on. I read the light comes on around 2 gallons before empty so that's around 8.8 gallons. I'm sure you can do the math. I drive a MT.

If you're saying that you believe the ScanGauge over the actual gallons you put in the tank and the miles on the odometer, you have it exactly backwards. What Paul is saying, and what Rich and I have also said, is that the SG gives very very inaccurate MPG numbers for realtime and trip values. They're optimistic by 20% or so, meaning that your 50mpg trip to the store is probably actually 40mpg.

When it comes to trip and realtime MPG, the SG is nothing more than a calculator. Determining actual MPG by fillup figures is the only way to verify what the SG is telling you.

My SG is within 1% on miles and fuel unless I use P&G. I think the WOT operation is what tossed the fuel used results in the weeds and verified off by 17%.

If any of you read my P&G comments a month ago, you noticed I talked about WOT and OPEN loop. Open loop WOT is always way fuel rich. Being that the fuel is not from a flow meter in the SG it looks like the WOT Open loop fuel estimate is just way off.

Ohh and as far as users on here bragging about SG mpg with no tank results. It's obvious that's why they have a SG and taking 15sec to divide Miles into gals would spoil all the bragging. Just go back to ignoring what looks to be bogus data.

All I ever use is miles driven divided by gallons used. I do P&G, and if that throws off the SG, then I guess I won't be buying a SG. 90% of my driving is interstate, which is actually a little harsher on mileage with the Fit, and my best tank so far was 43.98 combined. When I hit 45 I will be happy and fulfilled and may then start modding the car with a CAI and some appearance mods...or maybe I will supercharge it.

Well, Ladies(if there are any) and Gents I am checking in for another update:

469.2 miles using 9.4 gallons = 49.9mpg

I used Cruise Control going the speed limit or 5mph below. I used A/C such that I didn't sweat(I would cycle it off and on) Which makes me wonder about coasting and using the A/C - does it use less gas than if in gear???

I would only turn off my car at long lights(longer than 12sec).

I only drove 26.9miles with the gas light on before I got to the gas station.

So, assuming the gas pump didn't cheat me then I only lost ~6mpg NOT using P&G and FAS but using CC, however I drafted twice as many miles this tank than the last tank.
