Opinions on Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax

Looking for opinions on Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax. Read some good things about it. I live in western PA so the weather is constantly crap here. Salt on the roads almost constantly in the winter. I read that a polymer will last longer around here than a carnuba wax would. Just looking for opinions here; mainly for the paste but liquid opionions will do just fine. I want something that I can wax once a month but will make the fit look stunning.

NXT is a decent wax in my opinion. It looks good on darker color cars, but the durability is horrible. You are right that most polymer or synthetic sealants WILL last longer than a wax but will not as always look as good as a carnauba. Now if your set on something that can be purchased in stores I would go to advance auto parts and if your lucky you might find a product called Meguiars #26 Hi-tech yellow wax. Its from their professional detailer line and is by far the best wax for the money. MY personal favorite sealant/wax which I pick over the #26 90% of the time is meguiars #21. The durability is about 3 months compared to the 3 weeks ive gotten with NXT.

Another good tip in helping sealants bond better to the paint is to get some 91% Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) into a spray bottle and wipe down the entire car before applying the sealant. This will remove any oils or dust thats still on the paint and will give the sealant a better surface to bond to. This usually adds a couple of weeks to the sealant and makes it look even wetter.

If you do decide to try out #21, which is my recommendation, it works best if you can let it cure for about 8 hours before wiping off. Waiting another 2 hours or so and applying another layer. If thats not possible at least give it as much time as possible in between coats.

Usually if I have enough time with my customers cars I also apply #26 wax over the #21 synethic sealant to give the paint even more depth and wetness. And of course the wax will wear off before the sealant will so then I can just add more wax on top of that and keep the sealant for as long as I need too.

Another thing you do is get some of meguiars ultimate quick detailer at walmart (black bottle). After you wipe off the sealant spray the car down and just wipe away with a microfiber towel, this will get rid of any sealant residue you mightve missed and will another layer of protection while making the car look more glossy.

Of course NXT will work, but youll most likely have to re-apply every month or so. Theres just better things for the same money. I have all three

Definitely agree that NXT wax doesn't last very long, just not worth the money and trouble. I found that it was awfully powdery too, it left ALOT of hard to remove residue.

If this is mostly for protection from the elements, how bout the Klasse red+gray combo? Or Klasse red + a nice wax like #26 or something from Poorboy's (never had any problem with any Poorboys product). I used to strictly use only Klasse red+grey on my black Mustang and that thing beaded up and looked glossy/deep forever with minimal maintenance.

Ice is also horrible. If your set on buying something locally then the only good option is #21 or #26.

Poorboys natty blue is a VERY good wax, especially for the price. Looks awesome on dark colors. Definately in my top 5. Their wheel sealant is also awesome.

I can order some wax from the net, I dont really mind. This is a new thing to me. I want something that will last, make SSM look good, and not "stain" the rubber and plastic. I would like a deep wet look. Am not opposed to layering waxes here. But like I said, I live in western PA and the weather is terrible here. I have a meguiar's clay bar kit that I intend to use soon. I was going to get some meguiar's gold class wash to wash with. I have microfiber cloths aleady but waqs gona get a waffle towel as well (meguiar's water magnet).

Your on the right path so far when it comes to products. In that case I would go autodetailingsolutions.com and order some #21. Great durability, great price and looks amazing on all colors. Really deep wet look.

OK. I can get #21 locally though? I like instant gratification, that is why I am trying to go local. I assume that I should not get it on the rubber trim on the windows and such. I hear ice can clean that pretty well. I have not really looked into what to use on rubber yet. Any suggestions?
Also, how long does 21 last usually?
Only reason I was going to go with NXT was because meguiar's suggested it to me when I listed my conditions. I have used their cleaner wax before with ok results.

If you do the alcohol wipe down I mentioned before it can last about 3 months. 21 can be found at advance auto parts but its rare. Only one out of 3 in my area carry it. Try not to get it on the rubber but it can also be used on windows so long you use it in very thin layers. I actually use NXT on my customers windows. Since its also a synthetic sealant and not a carnauba it'll be ok. I have something else on my windows though. As for the rubber you can check out detailersdomain.com for a thin called 1Z gummi plfedge rubber care stick. Works really good for rubber trim especially the one around the doors. It will clean, protect and puff up the rubber to make a tighter seal. Works wonders on convertables. As for shampoo meguiars gold class is the best you can use that can be bought locally.

I will check out the 1Z stuff that you mentioned. A local store to me carries m21 (just found out), so I can get it easily. I used to use rain-x for my windows and that always worked well for me. If you have another suggestion then I will use that. There is the aquapel that I would like to try too. Once I get my cast off, I am going to wash, clay, and wax the car. Probably detail the inside too if I can find the 303 stuff.

i HATE the mequires NXT 2.0 wax....ive never used a wax that is more difficult to remove. it always seems to leave a greasy residue on my NHBP fit....no matter how light/heavy i put it on, still a residue.

i highly recommend ZAINO wax. its a little more expensive than most, and only available by ordering, but the process is so much easier.

apply to entire car.
allow to sit for a few hours
wipe off...its sooo easy to remove. a light wipe of the MF cloth and its gone...barely any pressure needed.
*optional to apply detail spray to really bring out the shine

and the best part is, 2 coats lasted me 6+ months.

Zaino has the best durability hands down and is real common to last 6 months. I use zaino Z2 for my windows. Although zaino is the most durable I find that it doesn't provide the depth or wetness that other sealants or wax get which is why I only use it on my windows. Although zaino is definately a good brand. And to answer a previous question rain-x will work fine on the windows. The difference between that and Z2 for example is just durability but they both perform the same.

as far as sealants go, ive pretty much tried everything and settled on the Griot's PaintSealant.

super easy to use (like NXT) and advertised to last a year. i re-apply every 6
months.

Finally got around to ordering some of that Meguiars #21 & Meguiars #26 along with some other stuff.

I quit using NXT a couple of years ago..Rejex is the stuff you want. It beads water on my truck, which sits outside 365 days a year., for over 6 months. Matter of fact, the last time I waxed it was Oct 08.. and water still beads.
Simply apply per directions, first coat, wait 12 hrs or more, then a second coat. It applies as easy as NXT, but lasts much, much longer.
Here is a picture of a friend of mines 03 Z06, setting beside my car in the garage. Look close and you can see the reflection of his wheel in the side of my car..This car got Pinnacle Advanced Finishing polish, and 2 coats of rejex...

Rejex is the most durable sealant period. Although I find it is not the best looking. I use rejex on wheels and calipers only.

i dont know about the Techwax2, but i used the original NXT and it was easy to use.
but the durability is questionable.

honestly Prima Hydro will out last it and it's a polymer based spraywax. just spray and wipe.

on my dd's i use Griot's PaintSealant. it is by far the easiest to use imho and lasts several months easily. and on top of that i use Hydro while drying the car and it's a super protectant combo.

I switched to Collinite Insulator Wax. Its as easy to apply as NXT and also provides a similar finish. The water beads way better with the collinite though. All the forums say it is extremely durable.

I always use everything Megs but Friday night prepping my car for our first car show - it was a nightmare. I washed, clayed and put on the NXT 2.0 and it went on as it normally does with no problem. However, this time it was dusty, rolled up in small ball like particles. It created such a mess that I actually got my blow dryer out and blew it off before I started buffing it out. It got in every nook and cranny of the Fit and the next morning I had to use a soft detailing brush to continue working it out. I will definitely be using something else the next time. It was a long day and I was working into the night so I did not do Swirl X which I wanted to try but I am glad that I did not because of the mess. Made me wonder if the product was old because I have never had NXT 2.0 do this before. It did look nice and got most of the swirls off the car just using this which I was thankful for. The car took first place for Best Tuner so it did look nice enough to win first but what a nighmare trying to get that stuff off.
