Waxing Your New FIT, questions,techniques,products
Hey,
There are a few threads on washing and waxing. What I want to know is what all you pros apply wax with and what you remove/polish the wax with. I use Meguires wax, the three step stuff. I guess with my new Fit I can skip right to step 3?

I apply wax with a foam applicator slightly spritzed with quick detailer. THe thinner you can put it on the better. Thickness buys you nothing but headaches removing wax. I use tightly knitted microfiber towels for removal.
Remember to constantly use a clean part of the towel for removal.
u can skip step 1 if your paint is still clean and blemish free. step 2 is for polish, it is very immportant to apply step two because polish gives your paint the deep shine, after you polishm you have to apply step 3 for protection. the polish will not last long if u wil not apply step 3.
I've been keeping up with as many of the washing/waxing/detailing threads and replies that have been cropping up in this forum, and have gotten some great things rec'd like microfiber waffle cloths and wax brands like Zaino and Mothers.
Can any of the obsessive enthusiasts/detailing gurus chime in as to whether or not this is a good value? My Fit's NHBP so I'm going to really be putting some time, $ and effort into keeping this car clean, but above all I want to make sure I'm doing it Right.
Also, is it advantageous to use a (synthetic?) wax on top of an acrylic coat?
If you have money to blow, go to www.griotsgarage.com. They have top top notch stuff used for concours competition for exotic cars.
How about on the less-obsessive end, where I do Not have money to blow but still want to be thorough in caring for my new car? Would my initial link be a good value or would it be lacking?
I was wondering, is the finish already waxed from the factory? If so, how long will it last?
Or is it waxed by the dealer during the prepping?
Or do I need to wax it immediately?

From the dealer, most likely not.
Sure why not...go for it wax away. I would of today if I had the time. I just purchased last week. While washing today I did NOT see the normal beading of water typical of a waxed car.
I know the dealer got all the coating off and washed it, but I agree that water didn't bead up like it should. My Fit sits in the sun all day at work, so I washed and waxed it within 2 weeks of purchase.
Incidentally -- good tip from the parts dept. I picked up the touchup paint for the Storm Silver and he said that although the bottle comes with a fine brush in the cap, use the fuzzy end of a cardboard match stick for fine chips and scratches. He said it gives you a much neater application than the brush.
slinky, the link you posted is all good stuff. It will be good to get you started. When you run out of some of the products, specifically the car wash and wheel cleaner, you can just replenish them with meguairs products from autozone. They will work just as good for you.
