thanks for the writeup raimondas! just installed mine today. like previously said, it feels more notchy and the throws pretty short. also, shifting feels just fine w/ my jdm center console.

install was pretty straight-forward....except...when i got to removing the metal shift cable clip. sucker felt stuck & wasnt budging. i couldnt pry it out w/ a flat-head. ended up using needle noze pliers...grabbed the center of the clip...and pulled (and pulled) upwards with hulk strength ...it finally came out. whew. everything else went smoothly.

I just installed my Mugen shifter over the weekend. It feels alot better than stock. Its not a huge difference but definitely a noticable difference. It is alot more notchy and makes quicker, more secure shifts. shorter feels better also. overall good buy. very high quality.

I just installed mine today. Thanks for the DIY, it was very helpful. As for driving impression, the post above is spot on. It's very noticeably different, but the degree of difference isn't as much as one would expect. Still, much, much better than stock. In my case, I also installed mine using H-Fit's hard shifter mounts, so it's really solid feeling and decisive when you shift. A good combo for anyone thinking of getting this SS, I'd say.

Put mine in tonight. Great write up, helped out a lot. Took it out for a quick spin and felt a big improvement. Shorter, crisper shifts. Still not like the old school Honda linkage and rod shifters with a short shift kit, but better than stock.

Im having trouble removing the black linkage on the left. I keep trying to turn it but it just wont turn. Anyone got any advices to removing it so I can get the last 12mm?

You've just got to be a bit more brave I suppose. It'll turn, but you really have to get your fingers in there to make it turn as it's a bit tight. It probably helps if you have smaller hands too to get more leverage. It'll go though, just keep trying.

The Mugen kit is a whole new replacement for the entire shifter mechanism. The Skunk 2 is just a small extension added onto the bottom of the stock shifter making the throws shorter. For the price the skunk 2 performs real well and if your worried about it coming off a couple of tack welds makes sure it will not come off unless you want it to.

First of all thanks very much for the thorough writeup and great pictures.

I'm shopping short shifters at the moment, and like so many other folks I'm flip-flopping between H-Fit and Mugen. I've been staring at the Mugen pictures and at the stock assembly you show in the install pictures, and for the life of me I can't see a difference between them as far as the large plastic housing is concerned. Is it possible that the Mugen kit is really just the stock parts with a different lever and firmer bushings?

Any assistance or side-by-side shots would be very useful. Thanks!

This DIY helped out alot. The instruction sheet is basically useless, reprints info from the service manual. Check out evasive motorsports, I picked mine up for $209.

How Short ?

Hello All,
New here to the forum just was wondering how short is the throw on the mugen short shifter in inches! I have read that it is 20% shorter but how much is that in inches. Also is only the top shaft shorter on the mugen kit or is the bottom shorter also, just wondering because if the kit is'nt short enough I was thinking of adding the adapter type short shift to the mugen kit. Has anyone done this or think it would be a good idea.
