Oil life indicator: Interesting bit from Car Talk

This might have been posted already, but I'm lazy and didn't look for it. It's the guys from NPR's Car Talk explaining how the oil life indicator works and why it's (theoretically) better than changing oil at an arbitrarily selected number of miles:

Smile I always wondered

Thanks, I was never sure how that oil meter worked! I still cannot seem to get off of the concept of changing every 3,000. As my prior oil change reading was only at 50 percent.....and started using a Mobil 1 Syn.
Anyone else replace there oil or switch to different brand? Do you think it helps prolong oil changes...longer then regular motor oil?
