DIY: Changing Headlight Bulbs
#22
Are there any youtube vids similar to your posting? I'm planning to do a DIY headlight unit and bulb replacement. My right fog-light and right headlight were damaged almost a year ago, months after that the bulbs died out due to "moisturization."

Thank you for the writeup and the detailed photos.
I found with my oversize hands, I needed to disengage the wheel well liner from the front air dam as well. For me, DEFINITELY a no-go leaving the wheel on.
I did need to re-study how the H3 clip held the bulb, as I could not see around my hands... (H3 101, I guess!)
Thank you again... I might still be trying to get at it from under the hood!

headlight change
Gotta say a big thank you for posting the pictures. Since it is 20 degrees out and snowing did not want to do this more than once. I already had the impact driver out to start under the hood what a mistake that would be. UNDER THE WHEELWELLS HUH! drivers side first took better than an hour by feel. Did not remove the wheel or well liner just peeled it back enough to get my hand up in there. recalling the photo I was able to get it changed. the spring clip was the toughest part. Passenger side literally 10 minutes max. Same drill , the learning curve was on the drivers side. Thanks again without this I probably would have been well on my way to pulling the engine!

Headlamp Replacement
Changing the headlamps from under the hood took me about five minutes with no prior experience. 1. Remove wiring harness, just pull it backwards it may take a wiggle or two. (be careful it is greasy) 2. Pull rubber protective boot backwards and off. 3. Now the tricky part, those clips. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the rounded end of the clip keeping the screwdriver straight up and down and pull towards the front of the car. The clip will pop off the housing, you can then open the clip all the way and remove the headlamp. IMPORTANT!!! Remember not to touch the glass portion of the new headlamp or it will seriously diminish the life of the lamp because of the oils on your skin. If you do happen to touch the glass, use alcohol to clean it. 4. Hold the clip wide open and install the new bulb making sure the top prong is flat. Close the clip over the new bulb by holding the rounded end applying pressure towards the front of the car. Once the clip is all the way forward you can begin pushing it down and it should slide into the slot that locks it in place. 5. replace rubber boot over the headlamp metal shaft arrow up, and apply pressure all the way around to seat it. Reinstall harness and be happy.

Here you can see a SilverStar Ultra H4 on the left and the new 90/100w H4 on the right. It is considerably brighter. I did not have the camera on a tripod and there seems to be some glare or blooming, but it's only showing that way in the picture. I thought the SilverStar Ultras looked good and bright, but man they pale in comparison to these new 90/100w H4s.

No High Beams? Possible recall issue.
My 2008 Fit was recalled for an issue with the headlight switch and wiring.
To the best of my recollection, the factory positioning of the wiring harness caused stretching and straining of the wires at their termination points.
The inspection and job were known to be an extensive project, so the dealer set me up with a loaner car without me asking.

I finally changed my HID lights to just regular lights... I put up 3.3 kelvin yellow lights on my car. Just got tired of the white light... it was originally a bright cool blue light... and now its no more. Thanks for the post.

I've found the video below. It shows the procedures to change the headlight bulbs in more details. I hope it helps! If it doesn't play here, you may follow the direct link.

Just changed my own lights in 30 minutes for $14.95, thanks for the detailed instructions, you made this a snap.
2008 Fit:
I turned Driver's Side wheel in, removed the fastener the way that was described using a flat screw driver, pulled fastener out, Pulled wheel well flap away. Pulled wiring harness. Pulled rubber circle guard. Un-fastened shiny metal clip by pushing in and pulling back, removed old bulb. Gloved up (disposable gloves to protect halogen bulb from hand oil), opened package of Phillips 9003 PRB2 bulbs. Placed bulb in hole, struggled to fasten shiny metal clip but got it after 2-3 minutes, placed round rubber guard making sure to get all 3 prongs through the hole. Placed wiring harness on bulb prongs. Pulled head of black plastic fastener up, placed prongs through Plastic wheel well flap and wheel well, pushed head back and and done!
Took gloves off.
Passenger side, turned wheel in all the way and followed the same steps. Remember to use new gloves for second bulb.

I noticed one of my headlamps look "foggy" while the passenger side looks clear and "Brand new" did moisture leak into the housing causing it to fog? how can i get that shine again like the clear one?
edit: never mind I did this tutorial

2015-2016 Fit instructions.
1. Pop the hood.
2. Disconnect the headlight cables from the headlight.
3. Pull the rubber thingy off.
4. Release the spring (be careful when you do this since these little bastards like to get lost easily).
5. Swap out the bulb.
6. Reverse these steps to button her back up (make sure the word "up" is on top when you put the rubber thingy back on).
