Just remove the H emblem from your old key using a small flat head screw driver, and glue on with some rubber cement. Ghetto H emblem solved. I will try some Acura dealerships, hoping to get the key cut. So difficult to get people to take my money these days...must be the economy.

I did this mod and have been having a bit of trouble with the sensor in the key not activating the ignition correctly. The car starts then immediately dies and the green key icon on the dash flashes.

If I take the key out and flip it over it starts. No rhyme or reason to which side works.

Any ideas? I thought the Honda key (orig) would have a chip to place in the new case. Apparently the chip is in the casing with the buttons for the remote.

I do notice the buttons are a bit further away from the steering column with the new case. Perhaps that's the problem....proximity.

Anyone else? I'd hate to get stuck. It's worked so far, but a bit exasperating in front of the wife. I look like an idiot.

Satchel you might have to take the little chip out of it's
case and glue it in the outside case near the ignition.
(inside behind the key)

The original key does have a chip and you should place it in the new case.

Can anyone with an 09 Fit verify this? After I opened the key and took out the button assembly, there was nothing left in the casing. No visible chip.

I've had better luck today with the switchblade key. I'm making sure I press it toward the steering column when I turn the key. No false starts today so far, which makes me think the chip has to be embedded in the alarm button assembly, which is a self-contained unit.

take apart your old key and take pictures. take apart the new key and take pictures. its hard to help someone when you are explaining. its easier to show.

the chip is in the alarm button assembly. take it out and put it
in the flip key box. it will be closer to the ignition if you do it.

Thanks, I suspected as much.

It's working now as it is. I did a bit of experimenting this afternoon after work. If I press the key into the ignition all the way as I turn the key, the car will start. If I have the key in place, but don't apply that bit of pressure inwards, it's about a 50/50 chance it will not start. That extra millimeter toward the steering column must be enough.
Pressing in on the key during the start isn't hard to remember. I'm going to leave it as it is for now. Taking apart the button assembly didn't look like an easy thing to do and I'd rather not destroy it if I don't have to.

I finally have the switchblade key and can confirm that it works for the GE8. The dealer cut the first one improperly, but they paid for it. I decided to go to a locksmith for my second attempt and he explained where the dealer messed up. Here are some pics.

Switchblade and Spare key

Everything taken apart

Installed

Here's a pic of the electronics for the curious type. You can see the immobilizer built into the circuit board.

Got the key from GIES on EBAY, $20 shipped. That seller is fast and communicates well. I had the key cut by Kwik Key (San Diego) on El Cajon Blvd, $25. The locksmith was really good about explaining everything and making sure my key worked.

lol i just got my key from Gies today.
i will be trying to get it cut tomorrow.
will let you guys know how it all works out.

by the way the fob looks great. it doesn't look cheap
in anyway.
def worth it.
compared to the acura one you save a crap load of money.
you could actually do both keys and still have money to
spare with this route.

I agree there. For some reason, a few dealers are having problems cutting these keys to the correct specification. Hopefully they reimburse you like they did for me.

I just took a look and you'd have to cut the metal and find a good welder. Just order another key and take it to a reputable locksmith who specializes in laser cut keys. It took my locksmith about 4 passes to get the key to slide in like butter. He was working on my key for about an hour.
