^Glad it went well. I would be worried later it might slide down the pedal, having seen the other pics of this on a GE. I guess it most likely wouldn't be dangerous, but it could be. I might secure that s-hook where it is, anyway. Looks good!

I just did this mod today on my GE8, and so far it's great!

I used a 15/32x4.5x0.041" spring. I think using a longer spring with a bit thicker wire diameter would be better, as this spring is stretched a fair amount at rest.

The install on the GE8 couldn't have been easier; didn't require removing anything. Just hooked the top s-hook to the hole below the diagnostic harness, and the other s-hook sits pretty well right below the plastic piece on the accelerator.

Only thing I would recommend is using something other than shrink tubing to protect the paint. It sounded like a reasonable suggestion, but the stuff I bought could not negotiate the turns in the s-hook. But really I don't see a need for it, as it doesn't look like it will be sliding around any.

Thanks for the idea, polaski!

I'm trying out some 10" mini-bungees as I could not find a suitable spring ANYWHERE. I started with one cord, which was noticeable but not quite as much resistance as I wanted, but two seem to be perfect. Surprisingly they stay put on the pedal, although I think I might Dremel a small notch to keep them in place.

Use a cushioned wiring clamp around the pedal rod.

Honestly, a 1/4 inch cushion clamp used for securing wiring works great.... I did this mod not long after polaski posted it but deviated by using a cushioned clamp and used a smaller S hook through the holes in it.

See my post on the 2nd page - I used a C clamp. Since my last post I have gone to a slightly softer spring.

What I am talking about is a clamp of the sort that secures brake lines or sheathed wiring to a flat surface... It doesn't matter because it isn't visible but it looks neat to me and I doubt that it works any better than the original design....

I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning. Instead of having my leg cramp up by constantly having a too-light touch on the accelerator at all times, for under ten bucks I can drive just like any other car, with my foot resting comfortably on the gas pedal.

I like the idea of a cushioned wire clamp on the accelerator rod, but for the upper end, I think that either a small carabiner or a D-ring with a screw lock would work better than an S-hook -- less chance of snagging something, and completely impossible for the spring to come loose by accident.

So I completed this project last night and it truley is a night and day difference. I didn't have to buy a spring since I had the one from my stock mustang seat. I bought two 2" hooks and they worked perfectly.
SELDEN~ Maybe you've seen under the dash and where the upper hook hooks to but I couldn't see any reasonable way to get my hands+tools under there. The "S" hooks work just fine. Thanks for the wright up and great idea.

Canadian checking in. I couldn't find appropriate springs at Rona, CT, Home Depot, or Princess Auto. I know an earlier poster suggested the 5" one from CT, but the gage of the wire looks like it would add too much tension. By chance, I drove by a Home Hardware on the other side of town that I never noticed before. I picked up a spring 165mm long and 16mm diameter. Sorry about the metric, but that's what it says on the sticker.
