My 08 Fit AT Base has been running poorly (low mpg, lacking power), I finally recalled the engine air filter needs to be changed every so often. I waited until 16K miles for my first swap out. What a difference!! The filter was trashed. My mpg returned to its former glorious self. My power returned to its former, well, mildly glorious self.
Air and cabin filters aren't cheap these days. Even the NAPA ones run around $20 per.

my PRM cold-air filter wasn't really dirty after 10k miles but i cleaned and re-oiled it anyways yesterday. I wonder if my mpg will increase. We'll see. I need a cabin filter probably too.

When I put in my K&N drop in filter, ther green side of the stock filter was nasty too. All kinds of crap lodged in it, and it had a certain pattern to the way it was turning black. Only in certain spots, it was pretty funny.
I went with an aFE Pro-Dry drop-in filter, which cost a bit more than stock but is washable and does not require a special "kit" or a drop of oil to clean. Just water, or soap and water, and an overnight dry.
Sounds great, doesn't it? We'll see how well it actually works when I clean it for the first time...
