Noise ?

Hi, all:

The car: 2007 Fit Sport, auto transmission, just under 60K miles. (Just had it in about a week and a half ago for warranty oil change/tire rotation.)

The noise: started suddenly--no real warning. Both a loud squeak and what sounded like a metallic grinding sound against the ground as I left work. The sound appeared to be originating from under the front, passenger tire or between front tires. Accelerating/braking seemed to have no effect on either sound. Pulled over onto the side of the road and didn't see anything dragging under the car. Was driving home and grinding noise completely stopped about 15 minutes after leaving work. (Didn't see anything on the road behind me after it stopped.) The squeak got much higher in pitch and/or quieter shortly thereafter. That sound also seemed to stop all together--about 25 minutes after I leaving work. So, no abnormal noticeable noises right now.

Anyone have any ideas on the source and/or fix? Any ideas would be much appreciated...

I would look at the brake pad. It makes noise as warning. If it is not the case we can troubleshoot another possible cause.

it could have just been a pebble or rock lodged somewhere between the brake dust shield and the brake rotor or around that area. and then it just fell out on its own after some bumps and driving. next time it happens you can try rolling back in reverse and that may do the trick right away. if you continue to hear the noise than it may be the wear indicator on the brake pads (indicating that the pads are thin and it's time to change them).

willy65000 is on a distinguished road
Mine has just over 60k as well and I started hearing the same type of noise a few weeks back. I pulled one of the wheels and checked the brake pads and sure enough, the inboard pads on both sides were completely worn. Outboards looked fine so You should check both.
