Free up 1 or 2 ponies for the sake of comfort on a econobox. F*** that. If it was a race car yeah, but not like you would notice any difference in performance on this car. GO FORCED INDUCTION OR K20 SWAP OR DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!
you CANNOT remove your AC unit without re-routing the belt. There is one belt that runs the alternator, starter, crank, and AC. It's not like the D or B series where they are individual belts and u can just pull one off. If u pull off the AC belt, you'll lose everything else without extensive work to reroute belt to get everything else still spinning.

Starter?
i believe the belt only loops through the crank, ac, alternator, and runs around two tension pulleys.

If someone really wanted to do this, you would just need a shorter belt and route the same way, bypassing the AC. Just would have to do some research as to how long it would need to be. Still a waste though. Modern day Auto A/C units are quite efficient.
As long as your A\C is off, you won't gain enough to feel as the pulley will be free!! On my neon i did remove the P\S strap and it knocked off .2 sec. on the quarter mile!!
the AC compressor weighs about 15-20lbs. id like to see a shorter belt so i can take it off. i have been looking for a shorter belt that i can use but no one has the info on it for me so my compressor is still there. i took out my condenser because it was in the way with my intercooler and my engine bay looks cleaner without those ugly ac lines running everywhere.
help on this is appreciated, and all the people that disagree with taking the ac out, go post somewhere else because people want to know this.

i'm pretty sure with everything (compressor, condensor, lines, etc.) it is closer to 50 lbs.
also, in an interview ichishima said; "...For example, stripping a 55-pound A/C unit from a Fit that only weighs a ton will award more positive results than just doing the same to a heavy NSX."
as soon as my fiance/soon-to-be-wife and i are ready for kids, i'm getting a family car and turning the Fit into a track car. bye bye A/C.

get a piece of string, and rout the string how the belt should be. then go to your local auto parts store and get a belt that is the same length

idk about that. we deleted the ac in my brother's del sol, and it wasnt nearly that much. and id assume fit's system is more lightweight than a car from 1997

it is SUPER heavy. and it sits on the front of the engine throwing off weight distribution. i was just making a guestamation before when i said it was 15-20lbs. now that i think about it, it could be more.
nothing is bad about losing weight if you dont care about the amenities.
are you going to keep the dash? throw that shit out, along with all electronics, headliner, door panels, go w/ a summit racing 9LB racing seat, blah blah.
when i was 17, i gutted my 1989 escort gt. got it down to 1900lbs with me in it.
