Sleeper exhaust

Hello all,

First post here. No one stone me to death, but I am a VW freak (OLD VWs, I can't stand the bloated heavy crap VW is selling now, hence why I am a Fit owner, it reminds me very very much of my first car, a 1978 Rabbit 4 door).

Ok, with that out of the way, let me prepare for more stoning by saying this: I HATE FART CANS. Whew...I feel better.

Ok, so, what, if anything is available in the aftermarket exhaust for the Fit, that doesn't have one of these huge ridiculous mufflers/tips on them? I like subtle and functional, not something I can stick my head in and scrape over every speed bump, ya know? The stock exhaust is fine looking, I'd just like a larger diameter...anyone doing something that simple and clean in the aftermarket world or should I head to my local race shop and just have a custom mandrel bent system done up?

Thanks in advance, and please, no stones

Yeah I was curious about this too. I couldn't seen to find any chambered exhaust systems for the Fit. most are straight through muffler type... but there some alot more subtle than others.

I'm looking at the pictures of the Megan Racing cat back on their site...not bad...I might like a slightly more subtle look...but still, not bad. Check it out:

Several members, including me, have the Megan exhaust as an axle-back. The sound is low and pleasant until you floor it, then you get more of a snarl exhaust note (with aftermarket intake). This axle-back gives the Fit more of a personality than stock exhaust, and I think that the twin 2 1/2" s.s. tubes look much better than the large diameter cans.

I've emailed them, hoping they are going to make their Type 2 Cat Back in Black for the Fit...waiting on response.

Pic of the Type 2 Cat Back in Black:

EDIT: and manxman, thanks for your reply, its good to hear some first hand experience. Coming from the old school VW crowd, these tuner names are completely unknown to me, as is their product quality and reputation.

http://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-e...axle-back.html

That's a link to a thread I made. I took the Megan Racing axle-back and painted it in a similar fashion to what you just showed.

Style-wise I didn't care much for the Megan Racing when it was all stainless steel, the muffler sticks out way too much. So I painted it and left the tips polished and I love it. The dual tips give the rear end a lot more personality.

Here's another more recent shot, there's a lot more in the thread I posted, as well as a little DIY on how I painted it. If you go a few posts down there's some pictures of it unpainted as well.

IMHO, the Spoon axle back is *very* subtle- the tip is stock sized and the sound is great, very deep, not "tin"ny at all. And if you still think it's loud, you can get an optional silencer. It is also much lighter than stock.

I have the Spoon N1 as well and though it's subtle, it's freaking loud between 3-4k RPMs (this is with out the silencer). I love it though,

Hate fart cans?

How about a Fujitsubo Wagolis Axleback paired up with any B-Pipe/midsection(Megan, Spoon, J's Racing, etc.) of your choice.

That would be what I would do.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the pics and suggestions. The Spoon and the Fujisubo both aren't bad at all, but seeing the painted Megan sold me on it. The dual outlet look just really appeals to me, and from the videos I have found of it, it seems it sounds quite nice. I'll wait and see if Megan will sell a painted version, if not I'll just do exactly what Arisenfury did.

Arisenfury, did you just use high temp engine block paint? Hows it holding up to the heat?

I believe H-Fit also mentioned that they were coming out with a black colored axle back...they briefly mentioned it in my "H-Fit Supa Sucka Intake thread".

Might want to get in touch with them too.

Hmmmmz, it doesn't look bad, but I see complaints about the price, and it possibly being a bit drone-y in this thread:

Spoon is a canister.

If you want something sleeper just go custom, then have an OEM muffler put at the end. The 02-05 Civic Si (Ep3) stock muffler is nice.
Heres a pic. Very OEM looking, yet sporty.

Other OEM mufflers Id suggest would be 05-06 RSX-S, looks similar to Greddy SP2 just with a painted canister. Also an S2000 muffler

The Megan is probably your best bet, paint it like posted above. Since youre a VW fan maybe a Remus muffler? If you want to fork over some money

I used a high heat ceramic style from Duplicolor good for 1200 degrees according to the can. No problems as of yet, I painted it in May. I made another movie of the exhaust the other day, camera right behind the car with it taking off from a 5mph roll. If it's something you're interested in I can post it up.

If it wasn't designed to come out at that silly angle, I'd be a bigger fan of the Spoon setup.

SciroccoTDI, don't feel bad. In school, they always said "Don't be afraid to ask questions, because more than likely someone else is wondering the same thing you are." In this case, it's true. I've only ever owned American cars, and coming over to Honda was painful at first. I also don't like the ridiculously large mufflers, and the whole idea of an "axleback" was completely foreign to me. Cat-backs were commonplace, but anything else is just a muffler.

I like the looks of the Megan one as well. Right now, it's my personal favorite.

Hello again Arisenfury...indeed, I wouldn't mind seeing the video if you don't mind!

DagerOne, I know, this "axel back" thing is different. I have done just a muffler before on a Golf TDI, but that was *removing* it completely (in the TDI crowd, its known as the "muffler-ectomy"). Its an interesting concept to just upgrade the muffler and the short section, and I'll probably start with just this axel back piece to see if any gains are actually had, but will most likely end up with the Megan "B pipe" as well as their header in the end.
