TIR header installed-quiter exhaust!?
I installed a T1R header yesterday and much to my surprise (not that I would have known any better though), the exhaust got quieter-- quite a bit so actually. I have the T1R VIP (axelback). I definitely feel a low/mid power increase, but did not expect the car to be quieter.
Is this pretty much the norm?

Not from my experience. stock airbox and b-pipe?

Same thing happened to Sumo, he had the same intake (t1r) and axle back (spoon n1) as me, but he had the header(t1r) and b-pipe(spoon)... his exhaust was quieter then mine.

crazy. normally a header would produce more noise

So, this leads to my next question. Has anyone done a before and after header dyno? I curious if the header for some ODD REASON is more restrictive than the factory exhaust manifold.

I have the T1R carbon intake, but stock b-Pipe.
Ben/A&J racing has dynos that show low/mid power gains, but I forget what the other exhaust components were on that test.
Ben initially said it would be just a little bit louder, so that's why I was even more surprised at the quieter-factor.
I REALLY doubt the T1R header si more restrictive-- Oscar Jr. at Kraftwerks highly recommended it (as I am getting their s/c ) and really stressed how totall sh**ty the stock header is. He Highly recommended ANY good header upgrade from stock as he said (basically) it is a real piece o' crap (not his words, mine).
smatts: had Ben or any of the guys in your crew there ever discussed this?

Same thing happened to me. I have a drop in filter and HFP axle back. The aggrevating drone from 2 to 3 thou went down substantially. I guessed it had to do with the resonant frequency being different from the stock header. I have a B-pipe to put on. I will let you know what happens.

That's the only other explanation i can think of. I doubted the header was more restrictive, but the only other option was that the resonance was low enough to dissipate in the exhaust system itself. Meaning that the exhaust piping was large enough to displace most of the sound before exiting the muffler. In most cases the decrease in back pressure and increase in flow will cancel out the difference in resonance by way of volume and push more sound though.
so I say again.. does anyone have a before and after dyno result of JUST the header as the altered variable? Flow tests will mean nothing if the stock exhaust manifold is doing a "more than sufficient" job.

I should get this header. Ive been wanting a nice header since my Megan problem a while ago.
T1R is my top choice. I bet it wont make my exhaust quiet.

I have this header as well, lots of proven dyno results (as well as the more obvious butt dyno results) showing this setup produces more power and is NOT more restrictive. The AJR forum has some dyno threads where they test out the header.
I have a similar experience, my car is only slightly louder with the entire exhuast system installed. I leave the silencer in to keep a low profile, I couldn't be happier with it.
Here is the thread with the sound clip

Yes-- Ben confirmed that with the stock cat the sound may get a little bit quieter due to the increased efficiency.
Butt dyno DEFINITELY shows gains, no doubt about that.
Too bad you don't get a better view of a header when the hood is up. This baby is pretty easy on the eyes. The stock header was simply nasty looking.
