Smile The Official Blog from GD to GE to GK to GTI to R?

Note: Account was hacked and subject line was altered.

Im in the market for a 08Fit Sport MT, probably going to get a
Storm Silver or Black in the next 3-4wks. Im not 100% commited yet.

Im coming from a leased 06 CivicEX sedan AT which I plan on returning.
Im going to buy the Fit cash. It's not that the civic is bad in any way...
i just like small boxy cars and given that i don't drive my hobby cars in
the snow (or much of rain either.... im a detailing freak), i want a small
MT car that I can play with all season long.

When it comes to the Fit, im a complete newb...meaning, i only started
reading this forum last night in detail.

So for a guy that's looking to get a new one, what in particular shall i
watch out for...? meaning, any areas of the car with known paint
problems (peeling), any particular mechanical issues. What option(s)
shall i consider getting? I think i want the auto-dimming mirror as
extra which i'll probably install later by myself while i make my own
map lights, etc.

When it gets warmer im going to lower the Fit and get some 15's or
16's on them. I think the DF210's are what i want from the readings
and 15x7's 195/50/15's. I also want to paint the fog lamp surround
plastic black if I get the silver one.... that plastic pops off or are there
screws holding it down?

Any other tips or recommendations you might have, please let me know.

thanks,
ken

aha, found one of the few q's i had thanks to Mx6.

-The foglights/foglight covers are held into the bumper with 1 bolt per foglight.
-Use a phillips head screw driver and remove each bolt on the sides of the foglights. (inward of the bumper. Grill area)

Welcome to the forum. The Fit comes in a base or Sport model so if you want a Fit and not to spend more money the base is good but for just a small amount more you can get the Sport which has the fog lights and all the bells and whistles. Paint is soft - swirls easily - carpet is cheap. You'll be able to hear the gas tank sloshing from time to time as it is located under your seat! Other than that it is a great car - fun to drive - fun to mod out and not real fast. Get use to having people stare at you and your different looking car. Have you gone on a test drive yet?

Let us know what you decide to get.

well there's no options for the fit really, just accessories like floor mats or cargo covers. there's just a base fit and a sport fit. mostly cosmetic differences, you can find the details on the honda website. i don't really have any complaints about this car, just make sure you test drive it to see what it's really like because the low power was quite a shock to me when i first drove a fit. other than that i guess...the fit is the best haha

i'll try to tell you what's on the sport that's not on the base, just off the top of my head (there might be more)
-leather wrapped steering wheel
-15in alloy wheels
-a better stereo system
-different shiftknob for MT (i think)
-foglights
-front/rear lip, side skirts, and spoiler
-cruise control*

thanks for the info. im going to get the Sport model in the 5MT if i
decide to go with the Fit.

The thing that kinda bothered me was that it has no dead pedal so
i guess im going to have to pull back the carpeting and kinda tap one
on, huh? also no map lights, i take it?

no, i have not taken one for a test drive, but based on the excellent
reviews on handling, top 10 pick at C&D, etc i think it should satisfy
the needs for me. bascially im looking for basic, fun transportation in
MT.

i'll probably go to the dealer this coming weekend for a test drive.

my other option is to sell my cooper-s and get a 08'R32...but man, the R53
is just a hot little hatch im not sure if i wanna let him go yet.

I just bought an '08 mt sport and couldn't be happier. The Fit replaced my '02 Neon that fought the back end of a 3/4 ton truck and lost. I went from a dull boring commuter car to an actual fun to drive commuter that gets better gas mileage. So far a low of 35 while driving like a kid (I'm 44) to a high of 39 while driving like a....well 44.

No idea what the hp/tq numbers were for the Neon but I think the Fit has more pep. It seems everybody gripes about lack of power but it seems to scoot along just fine. It maintains 70mph on hills that bogged down my Neon and it has no problems keeping up with traffic when the light turns green. I have no doubts it would smoke my old car.

I threw in some of the all season floor mats as the carpet doesn't seem like it's going to hold up. I carry a lot of tools (commercial electrician) in the back and plan to pick up the rear mat later this week. I did pick up the tonue (sp) cover to hide my tools etc as there is no trunk. The cover was a 10 second install. The all season floor mats require the carpet to be cut and seemed a little hokey. I just laid them in without the attachments and called it good.

In addition to what is stated below the sport also gives you cruise control.

microtus- congrats on your car and thanks for the advise on the a/s floor matts.
i have the factory one in my 06 civic right now and they are great.

also, im runing Berber matts on my G35C which are extremely durable
and has a nice lux look. (but they come at a cost). they can be
had at Griot's Garage 1-800-345-5789 - Car Care for the Perfectionist or
AutoSportCatalog.com - Products For Everyone Who Drives! 800-953-0814 both are
from the same manufacturer.

keep an eye on the thread link below, cause it appears the 08's are being recalled!
im asking a buddy of mine (who is a ASE Cert.tech at my local dealer) if
he can get me more info.

So anyone know what the name of the wheels are on the post above?

Also, any issues fitting a baby stroller in the trunk with both seats
occupied by child seats? im thinking about just tinting the rear
windows dark and not get the compartment cover thingie.

You can probably fit 10 baby strollers back there without folding the seats and 100 with folding it down Definitely try to get the floor mats as throw in with the deal, you can probably get the cargo cover too if your up hustling with your salesman. I'd say get the silver one, you as a detail freak should know better when getting the black. I was originally set on getting a silver but seeing a fresh black fit off the trailer with 4 mi it I couldn't resist not getting the black. But now seeing the downside of the black paint I wish I had sticked with silver.

nice info, thanks. i have 2 little kids so having enough space for
a stroller and groceries is a must-have.

as with my cooper-s, i think the butt of the car dirties up after a quick
drive, huh? same thing on my old civic HB i had. so considering that,
it think silver would be a much easier color to take care given that this
car will be driven all season long.

appearance...maybe 50/50 with functionality. i plan on getting
Nokia (sp?) cheezo pedal covers.

so, anyone know who makes those wheels (where i can get them) on
the black car in one of my earlier posts?

went over to the dealer today and they have exactly wat i want.... storm silver 5MT.
i was asked by the wife to check trunk space... as hatch69 said, it's big. probably
about as big as my civicEX's trunk even with the rear seat up and cover.

man, the Fit makes my cooper-s look small!!! lol

lol you only have 300+ posts...you're a newb yourself.

so i went out and test drove the FitSport. it was nice and comfy,
everything was all good. clutch was nice and light, engaged smoothly
even with my snow boots on i could get a clean shift. i turned the
stereo on and buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
the door panel started to rattle from the bass. anyway i can probably
fix that so no biggie.

overall it's a nice package. my sales guy said he can only offer selling
at MSRP with the added ass-whoppin' $110+ wheellock set coming out
at $16,024. he said he can't throw in a/s floormats in the price, but
would give it to me at cost.

im not sure if the car's worth that much.

comments?

Going to get my 06civicEX sedan appraised today. if i can get enough
so that it is close (within $1.5K) to covering the remaining lease ($16K)
i will go ahead with the purchase cause i can get a decent tax break.

say 16024(Fit) -15000(trade) = 1024 x tax = $80. so i'd pay $1000 to
close the lease, total coming out to $17,124 cash (+ regsitration)

or say go to carmax, get $16K flat buyout with no penalty.
16024(Fit) with tax = $17225. I lose $101 which i could pay for
a/s floor mats. (+ registration).

if not, then i'll sit tight a little longer so that the buyout is less
while my civic barely depreciates.

basics.
