DIY: Install Sound Deadening/Damping

If you want to cut down noise, my advise is to put it in the trunk and rear wheel wells.

Right now the entire inside of my car is in the living room. I am going to be putting some capret padding down, but have had trouble finding info on regular carpet padding. If the carpet padding is not closed cell foam you may have issues with water, when installing in your doors. If someone has some info about which carpet padding to buy that would be great since I will probably be putting some down in the next couple of days.

I dont know where you would but it from since I bought mine from the foam company, but you want CLOSED CELL NEOPRENE. I suggest just asking the guy at Home Depot or Lowes he might be able to point you in the right direction.

I did stuff batting into the areas where the tailights are and u can notice the difference of it now. I think eventually I will take the rear panels out and put in some carpet padding.

It took 3 whole days......but finally finished applying the RAAMmat and Ensolite to the front and rear floors.

It's definitely a bit quieter--less road noise. However, it didn't eliminate as much of the tire noise as I was hoping. I tried to apply as much RAAMmat & Ensolite under the factory padding that's closest to the firewall & front wheel wells.

I'm planning to add R & E to the side kick panels this weekend. Hopefully, this will help muffle some of the tire noise. I'm not too optimistic though...it's such a small area.

I also applied RAAMmat under factory insulation in the engine/hood. It's funny...it seems like I can't hear the engine as clearly when listening to the radio/iPod. I find myself using the tack more now...

Here's some pics:
Day1 - Removed the entire interior...started to rain so had to stop.


Day2 - Applied RAAMmat....Man! This batch was super messy. The Butyl adhesive seemed thinner than my previous orders. It was all over my hands and tools.



Day3 - Applied Ensolite & re-installed the entire interior....then went for a test drive.

Wow man, you did a nice job there. You got any pics of the hood and engine area you did? If you think it isnt as quiet as you wish it was then just go ride in a stock Fit you will come back to realize that it is much quieter.

Thanks smeister. haha. Yeah, you're right...I think I'm unrealistically expecting it to be "crazy" quiet. I'm actually very satisfied w/ the results. I'm really looking forward to upgrading my audio system now. The stock components sound really nice w/ all the sound deadening.

As far as my statement...

...is probably the accumulation of ALL the sound deadening (the floors & under the hood), not specifically due to putting RAAMmat under the hood.

Here's a couple of pics of the RAAMmat applied under the hood. I probably could've put more on, but I applied it as kind of an "after-thought" so just quickly cut deadener in a shape that would not show outside of the OEM insulation.

Nice, thanks for posting those pics. How did you get those big plastic plugs off that hold the OEM sound deadening piece on there???

I used the same trim/clip remover I used to remove most of the trim & panels inside the car. The big plastic clips came off pretty easily w/o damaging them.



It worked great for removing every type of clip I encountered throughout the entire sound deadening project.
