The enclosure lifts easily from the spare tire, yet fits snug enough that it does not rattle or move. In the tutorial in the link above, enclosure is bolted in with the wing nut of the tire. I molded over the wing nut so that the tire removal is simple and normal.
Under the type right hand corner of the top amp is a body support or rib. The amp rack is three pieces of wood cut to fit the contour of the plastic panel. The wood was glued together and and covered. Then it was attached with only 1 screw through the panel into the rib. VERY little damage to the car! I'll try to get a clearer picture tomorrow.
I worked in car stereo for 12years as an installer and was a 3 time IASCA finalist and podiumed in the CMAA pro division back in the day. I have done better work, but i'm not competing anymore so there are some rough ends. When I get more time I'll improve it. I have hertz components in the front. They are OK, but I have heard better. That may be the next change. I went old school on the amps because they fit well and the sub amp can be bridged to 2 ohms. They are extremely clean sounding. I have a brand new tarantula 4 channel, but I decided to go old school.
wow this is really nice. So you're not using the spare tire itself as the enclosure... you just created an enclosure (fiberglass???) to fit snugly within the spare tire? this is an amazing install, you should try to rename the topic to "subwoofer install inside spare tire" to make it more accessible.
Thanks for the compliment. If you look at the start of the thread, there is a link for a tutorial that is step by step. You can do it! Be brave and give it a shot. The only thing I did differently was I did not bolt the enclosure down. You would have to remove the sub from the enclosure to change a flat. I simply molded it over the bolt. Then, instead of carpeting the bowl of the enclosure, I sprayed it with 4 coats of undercoating. The enclosure sits snuggly in the rim and the undercoating keeps it from rattling and vibrating.
If you look at where the trunk floor sits, on the the left and right side there is a lip the floor sits. There is another lip around it that is a little higher and wider (mine is an 09),. I cut a new trunk floor to sit on this upper lip. It gave me about another half inch of clearance.
