Keep spare tire sub box suggestion

http://m.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198934

So, lets say you mold the fiberglass for the interior AND outer perimeter of the spare tire? The box would have to have cutouts or space for:

Jack tools
Side handles to lift the box out
Room for extra speaker wire if you dont have speaker wire external disconnects to get the box out of the way
Dynamat if you are dampening

10 or 12 inch shallow mount? 4 10s?

I dont think you could build UP for a add on box like this post but using the perimeter you can build OUT.

I'm not that handy so ill check with the car audio shop on their thoughts. If they can do it, any interest on duplicate boxes and if so, how much would you spend with a single 12 inch cut-out? A JL stealth box of this type would run around $600 loaded - right?

Would it work and do you think you could have enough cubic feet of internal volume? Would there be any rattling of the tire cover lid?

Thoughts?

I am looking at doing something similar. I want to remove the spare tire and build a partially sunk box and make a new floor cover. I have a fairly large 12 for it (3500 watt Pioneer champion pro).

I think you are right. There is lots of good space there.

As much as would like to keep the spare - I think it's going to have to go. The space from the top of the tire to the underside of the lid is maybe half an inch.

Taking out the spare opens up the possibilities.

We'll see.

Just make a fake floor that hinges the same way as the floor panel, bolting at the seat or seatbelt bolts.

Make the fake floor about 4 inches deep to cover all wiring and amp mounts, and then build your box on top!
