Remote install of radar detector

I am looking to install a Whistler Pro 3450 radar detector below the A/C controls. I just need to know if the flat area (right below the ac controls and above the power socket) has enough space behind it to do this install if I flush mount it. The control panel dimension is (0.75" x 2.75" x 2.2").

I don't think there is enough clearance back there. Why not just putting it into the pocket to the left of the steering wheel? that's much bigger and looks like it could house the R.D.

I thought of that but I like the convenience of that pocket. Dash mount on top of the center ac vents is an option but i am concerned about theft. I have not purchased this radar, but just curious if it will fit. Does anyone recommend a radar that can be hidden (without taking it down everytime i park)?
