this, effectively, sets your opener to respond to one static code. homelink devices don't have the ability to mimic a rolling code so this is the workaround. with non-rolling-code setups you wouldn't have to program your opener, it would just respond thinking your homelink IS your old remote.
that's not true

the first programming step is to get the frequency

the second programming step is to setup rolling code.. as confirm by a phone call to homelink

Hey you guys think I can fit the maplight/homelink with the sunglass holder? I wonder if there is enough depths for the sunglass part to fit. TIA

My wife's CR-V has the maplight with the sunglass holder and I was wondering the same thing. I had hers half way out to see if it would fit and got busted and had to put it back. Hers doesn't have the homelink though so I'd have to find one with the homelink.

moth passed with no replys, and i wanted to ask the same question - will the unit with the sunglass holder fit depthwise?

for those who did the original mod (just the light and link) and cut the liner - do you think it might have enough depth or was it pretty tight as it is?
thanks

it won't fit without some modification, such as moving it back towards the back, since the roof gets in the way :-P

hmmm. somehow it looks like it is getting even shalower as you move back but from what you said it is the other way around. why? is there anything protruding from the roof in the "hump" area (the bulge closer to mirror mount)?

I have all three styles of overhead consoles, tried them and they just don't fit.. so take my word for it :-)

if you want to do it, move back about 3-5 inches, but then it won't look the same as our installs

DAng!

I just can't seem to get my hands on the CL with only the HomeLink. Plenty of ones with the sunglass bin, too bad it doesn't fit.

Here is an image that might help eye the depth needed if attempting +tray versions. Black bulge is pretty fat.

Some questions on the wiring …

I went out to the salvage yards today but didn’t find the maplink … but did find one with the maplight missing so I cut off the connector … so at least I got the connector …
NOTE: during my research the Acura CL only offered the maplight with homelink WITHOUGHT sunglass holder in 98 and 99 … there was no Acura CL in 2000 and the 2001 model has the sunglass holder

I understand the positive to light and negative to ground … but to help clarify …

Wyy183 mentioned the red wire with white strip which is the center wire in the tree-pin connector … does this serve your memory also?

Spider2k mentioned one is constant 12v, one is ground and negative is switched from the door circuit

eGadgetGeek mentioned … “I tested my light this evening with a battery to make sure everything worked. The switched lights come on with the two outside pins powered. When you take the center pin to ground it lights the lights as long as they aren't already turned on. So, this would mean they are negative switched from the door circuit. Haven't pulled the dome light yet to see how it is wired”

So to help clarify everything … as shown in the pic …

The top pin goes to ground?
The bottom pin goes to the dome light red/white stripe wire?
The middle pin goes to the dome light green/brown stripe wire (to turn on lights when door is open)?

Thumbs up Thanks for update.

...OK, that's better. Still a stretch to far for me though. Thanks for the update.
Another guy was saying he had to get the bracket and bulb separately, must have been a salvage purchase then. My bad.
