Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) location

i just installed my AVIC-D3 navigation into my 08 fit this weekend. i never found a location for the VSS signal on this board, so i figured i would post my results. the main (grey) harness for the OEM stock fit radio is shared with the 06+ honda civic....so i figured i would take a shot at using the same pin location.

this picture is all the pinouts of the 06 civic EX, and pin 14 is the VSS wire. it is a different color in the fit(i forget what color), but in the same location.

i would also like to point out that if your hands are small enough, you can place the GPS antennae in the dash while the radio is removed. i placed mine under the dash plastic, between the center vent and the guage cluster. i reached in there as high as i could and stuck the magentic mat in there and placed the antenna on it. its working very accuratly and gets a stong signal. this saves alot of hassle trying to remove the guage cluster.

i found out when doing the install that even though the fit doesn not have a power antenna, when using the conversion harness to convert the OEM grey antenna plug to the aftermarket metal pin plug, there is a wire on teh conversion harness(usually blue) that is usually used only when the vehicle is equipped with a power antenna....however it was required for me to hook up to the avic-D3 to get any radio reception. i wired it to the wire output from the deck that is supposed to go to the car power antennae, and it fixed the problem.

BTW, according to my schematics, the color code for the VSS wire is Violet/White...

The fit has an antenna amplifier like all new hondas. If you don't hook up the "power antenna" wire you get virtually no AM reception and FM isn't so great.

Actually I found the opposite of this to be true. I had no reception at all for the 2 stations I listen to the most that are broadcast about 50 miles away. I cut the wire running to the antenna amplifier and instantly was able to get in all my stations again. What is the pin location on the harness? A few other people may benefit from disconnecting this pin to see if they get better reception.

Has anyone else with a Avic Navi unit put the GPS antennae under the dash? I was going to run it to the roof on my upcomming D3 install but Nighthawks method seems a lot easier. What do you stick the magnetic base to under the dash, so it's facing up??

brazillian uses the same design as the japanese, and european models are the same too... we all have the VSS, it's what the car uses to know when to lower and raise the volume when changing speeds.

depends on the model year of the fit. GD2's have analog guage clusters, so no VSS head at the head unit.

My vin number is 93HGD17604Z1128.. , these mean that I have a gd1 model?what is the diference? Do I have the vss sensor? My car have ABS, so I think it must have a sensor(4, one for each wheel).

In the service manual says that pin 10 of the C connector of the gauge cluster is the vss signal, it is the same for my "gd1" model?

isn't it YOUR service manual?

your service manual is for your car, right?

not sure what these questions are trying to get, cause you answered all your questions IN your questions.

The service manual I read is the one found for free here at the fitfreak.

Someone said that the gd2 has analog gauges, so I don't know if my gd1 have vss at gauge cluster
