We just got done making this shift knob for a customer with a 240, but i thought i'd test fit it in the Fit ... The knob is designed with a machined steel insert for the threads that is welded to a chromoly core structure that goes all the way to the top of the knob for strength. The urethane being used here is one of the strongest urethanes available, and it is the most heat resistant.
It looks a bit odd at first, but I like it though... i'm going to make another one for myself. I can make it any color i want, including a metallic finsih, which i think i'll make for myself in silver.
As for the feel of it, I hold the shift knob low anyway, so basically even with the big knob in it, i still hold it at the bottom, so there isn't really any added "throw" for my shifting style... but if i grabbed it at the top, then yea, the throw is a lot longer.. heh.
to answer your question in drifting it really helps to have both hands on the steering wheel and when you need to shit it is allot better to move your hand a shorter distance then all the way down to the floor. in short it is faster hehe
this is the same with rally cars

No more Crotas. . .
It really does make the Fit more fun to drive i think... and yea, the wow factor is kinda cool when people see it... haha!
If you added this to a good short shifter, you'd be at close to a stock throw at the top... right now its a little long, but i like it like that.. my Fit isn't a race car, and i don't intend on trying to believe that it actually has power or a reason to have some extreme short shifter in it... but it is for fun driving, and this makes it more fun
This shift knob was made for a customer, but i'm making antoher for myself out of a slightly different material, but it'll be just as cool.
By the way, did anyone notice/recognize the font on the shift-gate numbers? :P
