Talking BOM Fit-Jazz with smoke LED tails

This morning:

This afternoon:

The tails were an eBay find (just about $200 shipped). Not OEM, but I think they look great.

Word of advice: I'd read that the stock wires are, on one side (right side) too short to reach the bulb harnesses. Tis true. My kit didn't include an extension-wiring thing. However, I pulled up the interior trim pieces between the two tail lights, and was able to utilize the slack in the wires to pull the wires right-ward, effectively giving enough wire to reach where you need them to, without needing to further splice or auxilliary-harness anything.

Just thought I'd share.

thanks for the tip about not needed to splice! I'm sure that will come in handy for those looking to do the conversion without splicing. =)

LED tail lights...sweet

Thanks for the ebay tip. I just ordered a set. Besides being a brighter and easier to see tail light they look really good.

I'm looking forward to getting mine.

Dave

so without cutting and soldering wires, you can pull out the wires that is hidden, so making it plug and play? where is the extending wire located?

MINI-fit: Next? I have a Seibon carbon fiber hood arriving Friday. After that, 16" wheels (black w/polished lip). Waiting for Scosche to come out with their double-DIN stereo kit, and I'll do a nice Pioneer AVIC system. Nobody's asked about the Jazz badge yet. I'm a barista at my shop.

To be more clear, there are two "issues" when doing the LED-tails swap that I did:
1) the wiring harness for the backup-light is indeed cut, and a harness that matches the bulb-harness that you use instead (using the bulb and bulb-harness from the brake light... makes more sense when you have everything in front of you) is spliced in.
2) the wires to the right tail light don't reach the bulb-harnesses. This is where I went to the left side, pulled up some of the interior trim pieces, and saw that, as I suspected, there was some slack (about 7-10 inches) that might be utilized. I popped off the left-most (closest to the left-side of the car) wiring guide (or whatever it's called... where a plastic plug has a small plastic wire-strap on it, immobilizing the wiring to that spot), and then carefully pulled the wires through each subsequent wiring-guide a few inches. You need to be careful not to accidentally strip one or more of the wires when you do this, but it's not difficult at all. After I did this, I had no problem plugging in the wire harness into the bulb harnesses.

Sorry no pics. Hope this was helpful.

so while installing, you pull out driver's side leftover cables and connect it to passenger's side lamp?

Sorry for not being more clear. alclssus2020, I understand your question.

The tail lamp wiring for BOTH sides come from the driver's side of the car. The right (passenger) side wires run near the left-side's tail lamp, and, attached to the car's body with those plastic clips, runs along the back of the trunk-tray area, past/around the trunk-latch, and over to the right/passenger tail lamp. There is, however, some slack in the RIGHT-taillamp's wiring back where it comes from, which is near the left/drivers-side tail lamp.

In a nutshell, I pulled and pulled, hoping that there would be some slack in the wire. The pulling didn't help. So I traced the wires back over to the left side of the car, where I did end up finding some slack. So I pulled a few inches through the plastic wire clips at each segment, until I had enough at the right tail-lamp end to plug the wires in.

I suppose I could (tonight). I'd be surprised though if someone out there on fitfreak hadn't already posted night smoke-LED tail pics somewhere. *shrug*
