Inde 10 11 14 Comp School:
This is me driving at Inde Motorsports Ranch in Wilcox AZ. I am doing comp school and this is us doing drills. Basically every lap is a race. Rolling start and then race until we reach the checkered flag and do it over again. It was a fun time. I now have my competition license so I can wheel 2 wheel race.

Got the Fit more cone time last weekend.
We ran at the local ballpark where the club put on a double day: four runs in the morning, then the course is reversed and tweaked and we come back and do four runs on that in the afternoon. My plan was to run my derelict MGB in the morning and then find something more competitive to co-drive in the afternoon.
The plan got off to a poor start when the MG was just no fun. I took two runs in it, and it was even more painfully slow than I imagined (and I'm a pessimist). I parked it and jumped into the Fit and instantly went six seconds faster. In the afternoon I got into a lightly prepped STS Miata and did OK, all things considered.
The wife drove the Fit in both sessions and still got out of it grinning. I actually prepped it this time out - I took out the spare tire and jack.
Me in the Fit. The more I see these helter-skelter magnetic numbers & letters, the more I am glad I went with vinyl numbers on the Miata
And of course here's the MG in action, or what passes for action. These cars didn't come with sway bars till the 1977 model year (mine is a '71).
Videos from all of the above:
I think the Fit is now retired from autocross duty. The local season is pretty much wrapped up, and the few that I'm going to run to round out my year, she's not going to.

I think I'll run my Fit this weekend. It'll be a really wide open course, so it won't exactly be in its element, but it'll be fun I'm sure. I've got some some RE -11s on there, so it should do ok.

Here's a clip of my fastest lap. This was also the fastest STF lap. Pretty stoked that my time was close to some really fast and good drivers. There was still room for improvement too.

This course was tight. Also the lot is getting rough. Between practice and the event on Sunday the course had to change 4 times due to pavement breaking up and potholes.

Any consensus on the current favorite STF tire? I read the Sportscar review, the Hankook was a bit faster, but it doesn't come in 205/50/15. I had heard the BFG may be good for FWD cars. Haven't autox'd much in a few years but want to get back into it, hoping to hear what you guys are using/hearing before I buy tires. Thanks!!

205/50-15 gives-
BF Goodrich g-Force Rival S (new model) $129 each, avail. 4/6/15, (2013 old version Rival- $102 closeout)
Bridgestone RE-11A $116 closeout
Bridgestone RE-71R $123 each (new model)
Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec $113 (replaces ZII)
Other tires are treadwear 140-180:
Kumho XS $109
Toyo R1R $123
Yokohama AD08R $113
SCCA limits legal street tires to treadwear 200 minimum, check with your event rules.
For a new driver the BFG Rival is a forgiving tire, easy to drive at the limit. Bridgestone RE71R is very new while Dunlop Direzza ZII star spec is improved.
I think for most drivers any of these are good choices since they come in the same size for the Fit. Driver skill would make more difference than the tire itself.

People are seeing huge results on Bridgestone RE-71 R. Compared to the SS2 and RS3 it's about .7 of a second faster. Very impressive.

Defiantly tagging this for interest.
On a side note, crazy shit can happen at auto X too. Fast forward to 0.39:

How were the Rival S compared to previous Rivals if you used previous ones or compared to other tires you used? Granted, different days, possibly different course setup, but a rough guess would be cool. I have some RE71Rs on their way to me now and I hope once I get my car back, to take 3 sets out to test back to back on circuit (AD08R, original Rivals and RE71R and if I can bring a 4th set A050s).

AutoX Simulator
Good thread at Miata.net on AutoX simulators.
Best simulation/game for auto-x training? - MX-5 Miata Forum
I know it is not the real thing but it may be good for me to get some practice in on something like this the other 99% of the time I'm not racing. Will be looking/reading much more into this.

I went out and autocrossed for the first time in a couple years. The new RE71R's felt great. Last street tire I ran on was the old Azenis. I ended up winning STF, but the competition wasn't great. I was 33rd out of 128 raw time and PAX'd 10th of 128. All in all a good day. There was a Mazda 2 at a previous event that won the class, hopefully he'll be there next week.
